No, it will not show on the print.... but the file containing the information is still out in the wild and I have no control over it.

Well, if its your camera the EXIF file will show that its is your camera. If you stole it from somebody the EXIF file will show their serial number. Is that what you are worried about?

The camera serial number means nothing if it's removedl

I don't want anybody I don't know, having this knowledge. That's why I want to remove it. And once I have sent the file to the printer, I have control over what they do with it.

What's so difficult to understand.... here in this very forum whenever anyone posts a camera/lens serial it's always in the form 3601xxxxx.

Why do you think that is ?

Ian

I agree with you. The world knows enough about me. They just don't need to know the serial number of my cameras, what I ate for lunch or dinner and what zip code I live in when I buy condoms or nails.

Not to be paranoid here but careers have been made on circumstantial evidence.

I don't hide mine. I'm too proud of my camera and my lens to conceal them anyway! :D

Out of curiosity only, would it be possible for me to duplicate one of my photographys and put your cameras serial number on it and then ship it out for all the world to see? If so, it would be pretty easy to get someone in trouble for crimes against children such as child pornography? Nothing wrong with not wanting a serial number out there and I'm much more interested in knowing what settings you used and whether or not you used flash which is all contained as useful exif data.

As if pornographers would put any exif data on their photos. Even the police wouldn't believe it. But yes, the world is full of people like you. Hatred and suspicion are the words isn't it?

Nothing especially wrong in hiding, except that it makes you suspicious-looking; nothing wrong in not hiding either.

You make a gross assumption that all pornographers are mental giants and know all about these things. You make another gross assumption when you allege that hatred and suspicion describe "people like me" simply because you disagree with me. Let me just say you are wrong. I have my sex in the bedroom and not out on the sidewalk in front of our home. I have nothing to hide and could do it on the sidewalk as it is a normal function but I am more comfortable with a little privacy.

Ianman, see what you started with your preposterous request? :D

Pruenelle, I've said my peace (or piece as the case may be) and I'm done. You can have the last word...

Ian, on Windows, you can remove the serial by utilizing this EXIF remover, and choosing "Remove only the following tags", then selecting the MakerNote check only (MakerNote contains the camera manufacturing number). That does well for me for processing bulk of photos.

Or you can consider erasing all the meta-data using freewares widely available (including online web-tools).
