Advertisement Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Hi andybarton, Take a look here Port Charlotte lighthouse. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
elansprint72 Posted February 13, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 13, 2007 Nice pair, would like to see them in portrait orientation.
stuny Posted February 13, 2007 Share #3 Posted February 13, 2007 Andy - As a ligthhouse nut this is disappointing. As a fine photo, it is very fine. I think, though, it could use the foreground flowers just a bit less out of focus -- same lens, smaller aperture.
andybarton Posted February 13, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted February 13, 2007 Stuart I shall make sure I take a better one for you (and Barbara) this year.
stuny Posted February 14, 2007 Share #5 Posted February 14, 2007 andy - Thanks. Barbara is even more of a lighthouse freak than I am (which you might recall in my comments to some of your other lighthouse photos).
stunsworth Posted February 14, 2007 Share #6 Posted February 14, 2007 Andy, I have to agree with Stuart on this on. I don't find that the flowers really add anything to the shot. And to slip into Camera Club Judge mode for a second, it doesn't seem very sharp. I think you've been getting much better results from the DMR. Although after saying that I've never really liked Velvia that much, especially for landscapes.

Steve - I think an argument could be made that digital, especially at the level of the DMR is going to look sharper in many cases, especially on the web. At least when we're comparing it to 35mm, that's been my experience. I'm not sure if the image itself is soft, or whether it's the look of the film. Andy - this has a really nice feel to it, although as noted - the flowers seem to distract a bit. I like the scene though, and the texture. Digital might have been too sharp for a mood like this.
