stump4545 Posted September 10, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) if i import all my large 20mb images from my sd card into aperture3, then delete the many i do not like from within aperture 3, am i needlessly increasing the size of my aperture library by not deleting those images in camera? not sure if even after deletion they still take up some space in the library. Advertisement Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Hi stump4545, Take a look here aperture 3 importing bad images. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted September 11, 2011 Share #2 Posted September 11, 2011 Your camera has nothing to do with your computer's file structure, if you want to check if you have deleted your images properly in Aperture just check the appropriate folder. psamson Posted September 11, 2011 Share #3 Posted September 11, 2011 Aperture has a Trash folder, so when you initially delete in Aperture it goes to Aperture Trash. You empty Aperture Trash and that goes to the OS Trash. You can then empty the OS Trash.
stump4545 Posted September 11, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted September 11, 2011 i understand the way the trash works, i just wasn't sure if by importing lots of images that are going to be deleted anyway would somehow increase the size of my library even after i delete them, but i guess that is not the case. wasn't sure if aperture keeps some kind of traces of even deleted images. i just wanted to keep my library size down as much as possible. thanks
psamson Posted September 12, 2011 Share #5 Posted September 12, 2011 Real-life example. My wife records video of my daughter riding and it lands in Aperture. My daughter will periodically go through and delete the older videos from Aperture. I see a tangible increase in free space on the Mac after I delete Aperture trash and then delete the OS trash. I suppose it's possible that there are lingering "tidbits" here and there, but from what I've see their hypothetical volume is not of concern to me.
