Tonight we have the official 'audience with Erwin Puts' event. If any significant new points emerge I will report back later.

For the most unexpected of reasons, the evening session had to be cancelled. Our group of fifty plus members, Erwin and his wife, were seated in the dining room awaiting our first course, when the hotel fire alarm sounded and we had to evacuate the premises. Three fire engines appeared fairly quickly while we gathered outside speculating on the outcome and the fate of most of our Leica equipment secured indoors! Some two hours later the hotel was declared safe for us to return to resume a modified dinner menu after consolation drinks, of our choice, were offered and consumed! All agreed that the duty manager behaved professionally and swiftly. Congratulated to Best Western!

 

Despite losing the benefit of an informed group discussion with EP, I did manage to elicit the following.

 

Erwin has already started writing a new photographic book which will be quite different to its fore-runners. It will be a book on practical photography, with three sections.

 

1. What is Leica photography? is the general theme of the first section.

2 Practical Leica photography with film M cameras; i.e. Analogue Photography;

3. Practical Leica photography with digital M cameras.

 

He hopes to finish the self-published project by the end of 2012.

 

Finally, Erwin was offered Honorary Membership of The Leica Fellowship which he graciously accepted. So there is a real possibility that we shall see more of him in the future.

 

I have invited another active member of this forum, to add any further information that he might have gleaned during the weekend. Thank you for your interest and cooperation.

I concur with everything that David has already mentioned as I also was in attendance at the Fellowship week-end. I bought a copy of his second edition of the Leica Compendium which he kindly signed for me.

 

However what some of you who might not want to know, is that he came complete with a Fuji X100 camera over his shoulder! Erwin rates the camera highly despite it's little quirks and proceeded to use it throughout the week-end as did I and at least one other Leica Fellowship member.

 

Erwin is precise and measured in his comments about a number of different camera manufacturers but of course Leica was the main thrust of his lectures. Very interesting indeed and he has accepted Honoury Life Membership of the Fellowship.

I had the chance to meet Erwin a number of years ago, and found him to be a most personable gentleman and enjoyable conversationalist. Glad to see he's still looking well and fit and still passionate about photography and Leica.
