bbbonthemoon Posted September 3, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) What do you think, is it worth it? Most of them are in extremely used condition, with heavy brassing all around, and the prices are sky high. But still I'm very tempted to buy one. Any owners here? Does it really make better photos? Your opinions are welcome!

Still very expensive though.

Your opinions are welcome! Don't buy one if you want to make any pictures with it, you will be scared to take it out in whatever condition its in. So buy it as a collectors camera, and buy another to use (or just buy 'the an other'). Steve
Ronan Posted September 3, 2011 Share #5 Posted September 3, 2011 thank you, Ronan, for your generous offer, But I've put my eye on some particular copy, which is way cheaper. Still very expensive though. Np i have no intention in selling it anyway. When ever the subject of $ is brought up, i usually give 20-25 to 'hint' i would only sell it for a ridiculous amount. I actually use mine here and there, it's a good camera built like a tank.
pico Posted September 3, 2011 Share #6 Posted September 3, 2011 You want beat-to-crap cameras? I have a pair of sequential serial numbered M4s. Frankly, I am not impressed with beat to sh*t Leicas.
jaapv Posted September 4, 2011 Share #7 Posted September 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you are not buying as a collector but as a user who happens to like the way black paint cameras look, buying a repaint or having a well-used camera repainted will save you a considerable amount of money. I'm thinking of doing that since i use mine. Sell the BP, buy a repaint. But i've seen people wait a YEAR before they get their camera back!?
jaapv Posted September 4, 2011 Share #9 Posted September 4, 2011 Well, actually Shintaro took quite a bit longer with mine:(
plasticman Posted September 4, 2011 Share #10 Posted September 4, 2011 Well, actually Shintaro took quite a bit longer with mine:( However long it took, it can't be as long as Malcolm Taylor is taking to convert my Canon 0,95 to M-mount that you helped me out with. In spite of the fact you supplied us (free of charge!) with all the parts that were needed, we're up to three years and counting!
jaapv Posted September 4, 2011 Share #11 Posted September 4, 2011 You overtook me then. Shintaro was 2 1/2 years At least Malcolm seems to communicate from time to time.

Ah well - I communicate with him - when I remember the lens exists, that is. To get back to BP cameras - I've thought about doing the Shintaro thing with a Nikon S2. Seems a pity to paint an old Leica, but the Nikons can look wonderful with a new paint job.
wattsy Posted September 4, 2011 Share #13 Posted September 4, 2011 Not being a collector, I'm personally not very keen on the idea of spending £5K or more on a dinged up body that might only have 2/3 of the paint left on it. Just doesn't appeal to me. If you like black paint and the older cameras, I think there are better buys around than original BP M3 bodies if you want to actually use the camera. I was recently offered unseen a factory repaint BP M2 - described as in "mint" condition - for £1250. I was tempted but declined because I have enough stuff as it is. If you are a sucker for black paint - particularly M2-4 era stuff (and, let's face it, who isn't?) - I came across a great thread here on a Hong Kong forum. Easy way to 'waste' an hour looking at this stuff.
bbbonthemoon Posted September 4, 2011 Author Share #14 Posted September 4, 2011 Well, I really adore M3 for its 0.91 finder. 50mm is my favorite focal length. I never considered M2, M4 and etc, because I can buy new MP(and actually I did). But it's not possible to buy new 0.91 camera today. Great link, wattsy, thank you very much! It confirms my original statement that most of these cameras are well worn. But this brassing makes every camera somewhat special and unique, dont you think so? honcho Posted September 4, 2011 Share #15 Posted September 4, 2011 ....... But this brassing makes every camera somewhat special and unique, dont you think so? Probably more so for the person who has actually brassed it, Dmitry. :-) Did you get that paperwork, btw?
