pico Posted September 2, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 2, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Two M4s, chrome, consecutive serial numbers and used quite roughly therefore poor cosmetics. I've a gentleman that is clearly considering buying them, but the issue of a CLA for each has us each at a waiting point. Like me, he is a user and not a collector so I understand our mutual hesitations. Oh, and they do desperately need shutter calibration. To me - well I just need to divest a great deal of equipment, and of course he wants to strap them up and get to work. I would offer him a cost-of-CLA discount if I knew about what it would cost - even the worst case which might include RF adjustments. He's not an internet user, and I'm quite uncertain that I can find the correct information on my own. So the question are - am I being a fool, or disrespecting the Leica for even offering non- CLA cameras (with the owners knowledge of such), and has anyone an idea of the cost for a worst-case CLA? Thanks in advance. BTW - I was surfing DAG's site (because he lives closest to me) and saw this: dca.JPG and although I don't need such, I thought it was a rather clever solution for early M3s. menos I M6 Posted September 3, 2011 Share #8 Posted September 3, 2011 Dear Andy - I am hearing impaired and I understand that DAG rarely answers email. I have done small business with Don Goldberg on several occasions, buying spare parts and small items, shipped to China. On every single occasion, Don answered swiftly, highly informed and helpful. Communication was excellent in every occasion even beyond the point of sale. I do understand, that if his business might be extremely full and he might deal with several items, that demand parts or tools, difficult to source, he might get swamped and an answer or phone call might wait. I don't consider the descriptions of long months/ years wait on a job the norm, when dealing with DAG. Selling a camera without CLA, giving a discount on quoted costs and describing the condition honestly + the agreement on both sides about bought, as is, no change back is common practice and fair deal, if everything is as described. Good luck with the sale.
peter_n Posted September 3, 2011 Share #9 Posted September 3, 2011 I would recommend Youxin Ye for body CLAs. I've had Youxin work on two bodies for me, a Barnack several years ago and a new-to-me M2 a month or so ago. He is very reasonable (usually a CLA costs $120) and turnround is generally two weeks. Also he knows how to use email... YYeCAMERA Leica Services

MachineGun Just a guess - your hearing loss like mine came from helicopter and canon noise, and maybe an aircraft crash. Thanks for the tip. I'll e-mail him on Monday. TomB_tx Posted September 3, 2011 Share #12 Posted September 3, 2011 Don has always answered my emails; but sometimes takes a few days - especially when asking status of something that's a bit passed his estimated turn-around! But repairs have always been prompt and very well done. (Can't say the same for all noted repair persons I've tried...)
