<snip> The lens on the Digilux 2 is so fantastic, I can only imagine

what the M lenses are capable of. I want a M8, was on the list 10-06, then I read all

the fall-out and cancelled my order. <snip> Chris Wade

Chris--I really loved my Digilux 2. It was great. And I had some fear of making the move to the M8. (Answers to my posts here about "simulating" M8 working style were handled gracefully and politely and largely account for removing some FUD about the jump.) Let me tell you, you're in for a treat--the images you can pull out of a Leica lens on the M8 are, frankly, incredible. The Digilux 2 was great for taking photos--the M8 is awesome by comparison. Not just in terms of megapixels, higher ISOs, faster DNG/JPG writes with a buffer, etc., but the rangefinder aspect, the Leica glass, the smaller size. Sure, you are going to lose some features (decent AWB, movies, Apple Aperture support--if you use this--90-28 zoom capability, built in bounce/standard flash), but the image quality you pick up with the Leica lens--and the working style that's now possible (you'll see)--will be fantastic and may very well offset some of the "losses." It did for me, anyway. I'd have a hard time going back now. :D I'm willing to put up with the potential "hard failure" of the camera because I know Leica will make it right and the image quality is just that good.

Wow there is a hell of a lot of love than hate for this camera in this thread. Frankly it is good to see. It really is a winner in many area's and just think it will get better.

Is 2 possible: one possible is M8 go after time bat. This I thing is not most one possible. Other more possible is firmware 1,09 what makes to take away one prablem (grin blob and striking from lights) put after few more prablems. If is ever to come 1,10 will be take away all this mabe dozan prablems, only hope will not put after two dozans of more:eek:
Blasko,

Do you own any Leica equipment?

Larry

After suffering through all the shrill hyperbole that seems to dominate these camera-centric chatrooms regarding the oh-so-flawed M8 and the death of the R, how can you not enjoy reading(?!) Blasko's comments? I may not agree with everything he has to say, but I absolutely love trying to figure it out. Makes a lot more sense than suggesting Canon or Nikon build the next DMR (that idea on another thread was so pathetic I burst out in tears of laughter). Keep it coming, Blasko!

MAGYARMAN RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will, thanks for the reply. I also need to upgrade my iMac to a G5, and I hope Apple includes the M8 on their list of Aperture friendly cameras. What M lenses to you

enjoy using?

Hey, NP. I bought a 35mm Summicron-M. (Roughly a 50mm equiv.) Then, I picked up a 50mm Summicron-M (roughly 70mm equiv.) rather quickly because I was taking a fair amount of portraits. I like the 35mm best, I think. (The 50mm gives you away if you aren't dead on with your focus while the 35mm is a bit more forgiving for a newbie. :D I stuck the 50mm on there for this week's shooting and am forcing myself to get better and faster with the focus.) Mileage varies from person-to-person regarding lens choice, but these are a great pair for me. I may add a 24mm or 21mm to the stable (debating--Sean had some good opinions on this to consider) and then I'm pretty much finished as my range will be covered. (BTW, I have the 15mm Voightlander and it's a kick, even with non-Leica lens quality--and was cheap, comparitively, to boot.) I hope Apple steps up and gets DNG support in Aperture. And I hope the M8 AWB gets better along with the IR filter fix. The B&Ws are awesome but color has been troublesome (for me, at least) at the moment--especially compared with the WB correction ease of Digilux 2 RAW files' color in Aperture.

I had mine since early November. First version. Thousands of pictures. No problems. A great camera - and I am not sending it in until things settle down.

Some people had problems - and I feel truly sorry for them.

As to naysayers who don't even own one: dogs bark, the caravan goes on.

I will add another boring response but I have had mine for 4 weeks and only needed to clean the sensor which I have done with my Nikons so that was easy. It truly takes stunning shots and I would say my only problems have been with that thing between my ears, UUH the brain right.

I love my M8 at least as much as my first true digital lover, my Cinderella RD1. Previously I had a Canon 20D with an inordinate number of lens and was very happy with the results but I can not say I was in love. Nothing about the Canon inspired the kind of lust that rangefinder glass and cameras has inspired in my.

I have had no trouble with my M8. The pictures that I am getting are far better than I get with my 20D. I word of caution though. I wouldn't sell my canon stuff to get a second M8 body as some have suggested. Macros, super telephoto, most sports and kids running around are more suited to autofocus DSLRs. But for 90% of what I take, the M8 is the tool of choice.
