steelduck Posted August 30, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a M6 and I got a film back from development that seems to have light leakage. Do you have any idea what might cause this? Is it a processing error or is it because I have changed lenses outside in light? (I am quite new to film) Here is the example: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1009781/m6.jpg
Advertisement Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Hi steelduck, Take a look here M6 Light leakage?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ronan Posted August 30, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 30, 2011 Looks like it... also looks like mine but much much bigger. Does it look exactly the same on every/most pictures? My issue: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/1798667-post6.html
steelduck Posted August 30, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted August 30, 2011 No, I only have it on 5 pictures of 32... one of my friends said it could be 2nd curtain issue with fast shutter times. I am not sure but I think that the pictures with the issue were taken at 1/1000s. How about yours? I took a closer look on the negatives and that "leakage" seems to run from picture to picture on the effected pictures.

earleygallery Posted August 30, 2011 Share #6 Posted August 30, 2011 Has this happened before with this camera? Or is it a 'new' camera? I would say it is a light leak from the light traps either around the shutter or viewfinder. The camera needs repair - if you have only recently bought it then speak to whoever sold it to you (if a dealer it should be under warranty, if privately then seek a contribution to the repair cost or get a refund). tobey bilek Posted August 30, 2011 Share #7 Posted August 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Light seal around the shutter. I had two repaired that were early M6 models. The seals were replaced with silver mylar ones and the problem went away.
steelduck Posted August 30, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted August 30, 2011 I have had the M6 for a few years and it never had this issue before. Month ago the metering circuit broke and it was fixed by a local repair shop, who are specialized in old cameras including Leica's. This issue surfaced on the first film after the metering circuit repair.

gyoung Posted September 1, 2011 Share #11 Posted September 1, 2011 If its fogged between the frames it didn't happen during exposure. Sounds like its incorrect reassembly from other responses, I hope the repairer knows how to do it properly! Gerry
mikebidwell Posted September 2, 2011 Share #12 Posted September 2, 2011 Your problem seems very similar to the one I had with my M6 following a trip to Norway last year, I did post it on the 'I love my M6' link below (page 18 #355permalink ) and if you think it worthwhile you might want to cjeck out the link to see what happened. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/film-forum/35783-i-love-my-m6-18.html. Fortunately my dealer covered it under his warranty and it eventually ended up back at Leica in Germany where it was repaired and the problem was the light traps plus a few other things they decided needed doing whilst it was there. It came back with a further 12 month warranty. I hope you get it sorted. Best wishes Mike

I'll be sure to tell Kindermann to check the light traps since it went back to him. Thanks.

Thanks. Well it took quite a while to track down the cause of my problem but at least I am happy it's been resolved and I'm getting good results and and that any bad images are purely down to ME !!!!! Keep us posted on your progress. Regards Mike
