Hank Taylor Posted August 29, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Avenger got its first combat mission over Midway. Unfortunately of the six that took of from Midway only one return to base. This was the plane George Bush was shot down over Chichi Jima. Paul Newman was another Avenger aviator who flew as a gunner, he was unable to qualify for pilot training because he was color blind. Hank

epand56 Posted August 29, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 29, 2011 Beautiful picture of a great war bird. But Hank, I thought that Mr George Bush flew an SBD Dauntless dive bomber during the Battle of Midway. But maybe I'm wrong.

pauledell Posted August 29, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 29, 2011 Hank, Another great shot and interesting commentary. All you need are some Jap Zero's and you could have a reenactment of the Battle of the Midway, a turning point of the war in the Pacific.
