Hank Taylor Posted August 28, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Hellcat rack up more kills in the Pacific then any other Navy Fighter. Here is a shot taken last May at the Chino Air Show. Cdr. David McCampbell was the US Navy highest-scorning ace with 34, and on one day shot down nine enemy planes. The Lockheed P-38 Lightning shot down more Japanese aircraft than any other USAS fighter in WWII. Hank

Hank Taylor Posted August 28, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted August 28, 2011 Thank you Paul for the kinds words. If you will allow me, I would like to show you two of my favorite WWII USAF planes flying in formation at the Chino Air Show. The P51 had an astounding success rate. Its ratio for kills to loses was said to haven been 19 kills for every mustang lost. Although the highest scoring US plane, was the P38 Lighting with 40 Kills flown by Major Richard Bong. Hank Taylor Posted August 28, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted August 28, 2011 Another plane from the Chino Air show. The Focke-Wulf 190 known as a "Pilots airplane" Its speed, climb, dive and roll rate were superior to the Spitfire Mk V. The later model FW 190 D had a top speed of 436 MPH and at 38,000 458.5MPH. This too is one of my favorites. Hank
