jim sink Posted August 22, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 22, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) My problem is even though I have three computers ( Mac ) none of them have 'Intel" processors for running Lightroom. Is there anything I can do other than buying another computer ? I do have Photoshop CS4 and I think I can open a"DNG" file in that program. But only one at a time. Any suggestions ? Jim, I was in the same boat when I got my M9 20 months ago. The then current version of lightroom that came with the M9 didn't like my pre-intel Macs. On the advice of someone on this forum, I downloaded an earlier version of lightroom (2.7), with the happy result of decent compatability with my pre-intel IMacs and G5 tower, and less purple fringing around bright highlights on dng files. To this day, the 2.7 is working well enough (though not at any great speed, and I'm sure there's some upgrades I'm missing out on), and I hope to soon get an Intel Mac and upgrade to the current 3.4xx. Search for the 2.7 download; I hope it works for you. Best wishes. Larry
spylaw4 Posted August 22, 2011 Share #4 Posted August 22, 2011 My sympathies, but it's inevitable that with the change to a different processor, software ultimately will not support earlier systems. LR 2 was good - but LR 3 is much better and I'm afraid that you'll have to dig deep and upgrade at least one of your Macs to the latest type. I'm sure you know that the more RAM the better! kdriceman Posted August 22, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 22, 2011 If you do upgrade you should research OSx Lion's compatibility with your current software. Unlike Snow Leopard, it doesn't support many of the older pre-intel programs. You may want to get a Snow Leopard version.
losta Posted August 22, 2011 Share #6 Posted August 22, 2011 Apple has been shipping intel processors since 2006. Having a 5+ year old computer is like having a 20+ year old car, you are going to run into problems. The good news is the difference in speed and performance you will get when you do upgrade. Excuse me, don't you have the plugin Camera Raw coming with your Photoshop CS4? I use it and i find it very good for my raw photos. You can download it here: Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 5.6 update
jaapv Posted August 23, 2011 Share #9 Posted August 23, 2011 However, the ACR that comes with CS5/LR3 is considerably better than that of CS4.
andybarton Posted August 23, 2011 Share #10 Posted August 23, 2011 Isn't Camera Raw a free download from Adobe? I'm not saying that the latest version will work on a PPC Mac, but a later version than the one already installed might.
jaapv Posted August 23, 2011 Share #11 Posted August 23, 2011 It is, but ACR 6.0 will not work in CS4/LR2
prunelle Posted August 23, 2011 Share #12 Posted August 23, 2011 It is, but ACR 6.0 will not work in CS4/LR2 The link I put previously is to an older version that works with CS4.
