Guest Randle P. McMurphy Posted August 27, 2011 Share #41 Posted August 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use a Nikon S3 when I want to shoot with a 50. I use a Nikon too - when I shoot with my 105 - 135 - 200 and 300. Fully mechanic with Photomic Finder and all together much cheaper than a Ikon body or any Leica lens.............. Advertisement Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Hi Guest Randle P. McMurphy, Take a look here why not a bessa or a zeiss. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
roguewave Posted August 28, 2011 Share #42 Posted August 28, 2011 I'd by a SS M3. Simply the greatest camera one can use. The HUGE viewfinder makes it a dream for use with a 50 Summilux or cron. Using a 35 Lux or Cron is rather easy as well, once you get used to framing. Nothing else feels like the M3. Just perfect. My M2 is second in line. One should have the experience of pure joy with the use of the M3. I'll never sell mine.
waltere54 Posted August 28, 2011 Share #43 Posted August 28, 2011 After 35+ years of SLR's of all formats & Field View Camera's of all formats in my personal work, I bought a Contax G2 about a year ago. I was enjoying using it, a great change from my professsional use of digital, but I kept thinking about those camera's that HCB, etc. used from Wetzlar....I tried to resist, but would always find myself trying to 'deciver' the differences of the Leica M's, and finally I made the decision to figure out which one I would buy! This took some time to read and study all of the "googles" on Leica, about 2-3 months worth, and I watched the prices rising while I studied, and I bought a M4, made in 1969, same year as my Nikon F...what a fun camera to use! It and my Deardorff V8 are my favorite camera's to make pictures with!

sblitz Posted August 31, 2011 Author Share #45 Posted August 31, 2011 the nikon sp trades for more than an m3 or m6 -- does it take an m-mount lens? adapter? worth more than a older leica?
giordano Posted August 31, 2011 Share #46 Posted August 31, 2011 the nikon sp trades for more than an m3 or m6 -- does it take an m-mount lens? adapter? worth more than a older leica? There's no way without major surgery of mounting any L or M lens on a Nikon rangefinder body. The mounts are almost totally incompatible. (Not totally - adapters exist for using Nikon RF lenses on Leica bodies.)
h_A_Z Posted September 3, 2011 Share #47 Posted September 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Have u considered Konica Hexar RF?
sblitz Posted September 4, 2011 Author Share #48 Posted September 4, 2011 Not really. Didn't know they took m lenses. Used a konika rf with a fixed 50 about 40 yes ago and found it hard to focus. How does the model you suggest compare to m cameras?
h_A_Z Posted September 4, 2011 Share #49 Posted September 4, 2011 Just got myself the Konica Hexar RF with Hexanon 50 2.0 less than a week ago. Shot about 2 rolls with it but have not seen the results yet. Previously I was using M6 ttl 0.85 but had to sell it due to financial reasons. To be honest, the focussing is not as easy as the M6 but the other features IMHO sells it for me. I got the whole Konica set for the price of body only M6! pico Posted September 4, 2011 Share #50 Posted September 4, 2011 i have several leica lenses for my m9, but i miss film. i used adult film cameras (not counting brownies or instamatics) since the late 60s and would love to use these lenses to shoot film. m6 m7 and mp are rather expensive to do something that i am not going to do that often. since it is all about the lens and film combo how much difference does it make if in fact i bought a used zeiss or bessa camera to take pictures instead? I sympathize with the monetary issue. Been there and I'm there again because I'm on pension. IMHO, never mind the bodies with built-in metering and look into something like an M4. They have a very smooth operation. An M4-P to the experienced user is not quite as smooth, but still excellent. KEH.COM has a couple M2s for about $1000 in excellent condition, and KEH.COM will take a camera back if you are unhappy with it. Alternate brands using M mount are okay but they all felt klunky to me. But if a non-Leica body is all you can afford, and you like the features, it's certainly better than nothing! You will still be using Leica lenses! Good luck in your quest.
sblitz Posted September 6, 2011 Author Share #51 Posted September 6, 2011 thanks -- a lot of people really like the m2, and i fiddled with one at b&h the other day. how would you compare the M3/M2 to an M4?
!Nomad64 Posted September 6, 2011 Share #52 Posted September 6, 2011 thanks -- a lot of people really like the m2, and i fiddled with one at b&h the other day. how would you compare the M3/M2 to an M4? Depending from what your priorities are. The M3 has probably the best overall build and 135 framing but no 35. The M2 has the 35 frame but not the 135. The M4 has either the 35 and 135 frames. IMHO, of course. Cheers, Bruno
ChiILX1 Posted September 13, 2011 Share #53 Posted September 13, 2011 You can also get an M2 without a self timer on the front, and with a lever rewind I think it's the best camera Leica has ever made- looks clean and your fingers aren't on the timer.
