Nick_S Posted August 13, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 13, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) The following photographic equipment, which I purchased originally new, were stolen on July 9, 2011 from the coastal town of Loutsa near Athens, Greece: - Leica M6 black camera body with 0.85x magnification viewfinder, serial number 2433011. - Leica 35mm f2 Summicron Asph black lens, serial number 4100261. - Fogg Flute small camera bag in sand fabric/brown leather trim, with my name inscribed on a leather patch inside. - Gossen Digisix light meter in small black pouch. None of the items were insured and the camera is a 0.85 version of the M6 classic that is quite rare and which was my favourite camera for 13 years. This equipment may well be out of the Greece by now and in another country. Should you notice any items for sale, e.g., in a shop or on the Web, I would greatly appreciate it if you could send me a message or contact the police directly at the numbers given below. Full details of the theft have been reported to the local police who have also placed the items on the European wide register for tracking internet related electronic crime: - Artemidos Police Station, Vravrona, Loutsa. Police Officer Soropoulos tel. ++30 22940 88100 or ++30 22940 44110. - for Internet related sightings, the Electronic Crime police unit tel. ++30 210 6429893 I have also informed the Leica distributer in Greece, Skiadopoulos EPE. They have been very helpful and contacted Leica Camera AG in Solms to register the theft as well as local repair technicians. Any help in getting back my photographic travelling companion of many years would be great. Nick

wda Posted August 13, 2011 Share #4 Posted August 13, 2011 You don't mention the circumstances of the loss, but you have certainly taken the right actions since the event. My sympathies and wishes for a reunion with your equipment soon.

spylaw4 Posted August 14, 2011 Share #8 Posted August 14, 2011 Sorry to hear - I hope it was insured? You've done pretty well all you can - except possibly monitor that auction site, and if a similar camera appears then ask questions of the seller. Good luck! Indina Posted August 14, 2011 Share #11 Posted August 14, 2011 My basic angst related to photography... Could you tell us something about the circumstances, or how it happened? Maybe we can learn from it. My symphaty - and pressing thumbs.
Nick_S Posted August 14, 2011 Author Share #12 Posted August 14, 2011 Could you tell us something about the circumstances, or how it happened? Maybe we can learn from it. Indina, David After several hours driving and walking under the intense Greek sunshine I took break in an almost empty restaurant by the sea. With heat exhaustion I just put down the camera in its case on the chair, but did not do my normal practise of looping the strap under the back of the chair and threading the case and strap through to secure it. Some time during my rest there it disappeared. So I guess the moral of the story is don't assume a location is safe just because there are few people present and to be aware that your normal sense of what is going on around you can be adversely affected if you are not feeling well. I am thinking to add a small carabiner to my next case's strap to make it a very quick operation to secure it to something fixed when I stop somewhere. Bbbonthemoon asked about the 0.85 viewfinder in combination with 35mm lens. This viewfinder comes with framelines for a 35mm lens, but not for a 28mm lens. The 35mm framelines cannot be seen if you are wearing glasses, but are nice if you are prepared to place your eye close to the viewfinder lens. The framelines fill the periphery of one's vision so I keep both eyes open if I want to see what is going on around the outside of the field of view. It is like watching a movie near the front of the cinema, rather than closer to the middle. Nick
