So, can I say, without 24mm finder, the finder of M9 is like SLR, can see all that lens "see" ? I just do not want to use to finders, one for focus, one for compose, actually

Marty Posted August 12, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted August 12, 2011 +1. I had the 18/24 finder and found it was not more practical than the built-in finder. (Might be different with a true 24mm finder though).

Yes, but you will only get an approximation of the framing. It will be good enough for most of us but not for everyone.
schmolinski Posted August 12, 2011 Share #7 Â Posted August 12, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use mine for almost eight month. At the beginning I had the same issue. Now after that time I can say that I got used to it. I use the 28 frame lines to compose and leave sine space for the unexpected . Mostly that works fine since I can use my left eye to overview the scenery. On the other hand, if shooting landscape or architecture you can make a test exposure and simply reframe what you want to snap. I didn't regret saving the money for the external finder. bbbonthemoon Posted August 12, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted August 12, 2011 will be strange to unload cash for 24 1.4 and cheap out on finder
Marty Posted August 12, 2011 Share #9 Â Posted August 12, 2011 not as strange as having a finder you don't use

schmolinski Posted August 19, 2011 Share #12 Â Posted August 19, 2011 Seems you are traveling a lot. For Landscape it would be okay for me with a external VF. Bautista for people I don't need one.
Eastgreenlander Posted August 20, 2011 Share #13 Â Posted August 20, 2011 Excuse my enlish. I never use a finder when using M9 and 24lux. It takes a little time to know the focal lenth but once I had gotten use to it, I try to frame or envision the image mentally before even putting the camera to my eye. I have never found framing critical but the composition is all important. I guess that is the same with all focal lenths, that one has to know or envision the potential image mentally after what lens is mounted on the camera. I've read many that states that every M lens takes years to master. Its a skill. The ability to focus before the camera is on your eye. I always try to learn to focus by guessing the distence to my subject, setting the focus with my finger, then putting the camera to my eye and then seeing how far off I am. When using my MP I guess all the settings: aparture, focus and shutter speed before i see thru the finder. This way I learn a skill that can not be learnt from a full auto camera. The dynamics of a given focal lenth is not about framing but about composition IMO. Its about the subject that you have chosen to photograph and not about where the frame line goes... If that makes any sence.
jaapv Posted August 20, 2011 Share #14 Â Posted August 20, 2011 I only use the finder if the framing is critical, the FOV is fixed firmly in my mind,

Guest stanjan0 Posted August 20, 2011 Share #16 Â Posted August 20, 2011 How much in dollars is the finder for the 24MM f/1.4????
Ivar B Posted August 22, 2011 Share #17 Â Posted August 22, 2011 There are several viewfinders around. Voigtlander 25mm viewfinder is the cheapest one (about $100, but good) and Leica the most expensive at around $800 or so I think. The best is the Zeiss which is priced at about $350 as I recall. I use the Zeiss with my 24mm on M9.
