sm23221 Posted August 10, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 10, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone have a good method to rid photos of annoying red/green color fringes? It's quite pronounced with my Noctilux 0.95 but barely noticeable with my 'cron 50. Camera Raw's defringing doesn't seem to help much at all. Thanks in advance. Advertisement Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Hi sm23221, Take a look here Red/Green Color Fringing Elimination?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted August 10, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 10, 2011 No Camera raw is not very good at that. Nor Aperture. Try either C1 or ACR (Photoshop/Lightroom) both have rather effective CA sliders.
sm23221 Posted August 10, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted August 10, 2011 Tried ACR but moving the slider decreases the red but then increases the green and vice versa - so totally useless. Thanks anyway.
nelly Posted August 13, 2011 Share #4 Posted August 13, 2011 I have been having the same problems dealing with color fringing issues on strong backlit areas and have found defringing never really deals with it. So far I have had most success in dealing with it in CS5 using hue/saturation setting and reducing for example the magenta saturation. Still not perfect but far more effective for me than defringing tools in camera raw
sm23221 Posted August 13, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted August 13, 2011 That is exactly the method I've had to resort to. It's time consuming and not completely effective.
nelly Posted August 13, 2011 Share #6 Posted August 13, 2011 I have not had bad issues with fringing effects until I got a new 35 summilux asph fle No problems with my 28 summicron. I have had feedback from other members and leica that newer faster lenses are prone to this but it is a big headache and in my view, not acceptable for the price of these lenses. Dougg Posted August 13, 2011 Share #7 Posted August 13, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a few lenses that show red/green fringing on high-contrast edges. In Lightroom I can use the red/green slider to shift the fringing ... It's a matter of balancing the positions of the red/green to minimize both. Sometimes not totally effective but it helps... and FWIW it also helps sharpness because it brings all color edges into better alignment.
noeffred Posted August 16, 2011 Share #8 Posted August 16, 2011 When using Lightroom3 the automatic defringing is working very well for me. I suppose you gave it a go already? Welcome, dear visitor! The same option is available in Camera Raw as well and (unsurprisingly) works equally well.
