maccarma Posted July 31, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I recently bought a Leica M8.2 with a Sandisk SDHC 18GB Card. When I connect the card to my Macbook Pro and open iPhoto, instead of seeing (as normally) the miniatures of my pictures, I see "empty" miniatures (print screen attached). If I use that same Memory Card with another camera that doesn't happen, and if I use it with my M8.2 and connect it to another Mac with iPhoto that doesn't happen neither!!!! So I believe there's a compatibility problem between MY iPhoto and this MC. Or maybe that could be a "format" problem? Anybody can help? Thank you very much. Mario Welcome, dear visitor! lct Posted July 31, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2011 Which Mac OS and which version of iPhoto are you using? Did you update your apps?
StephenPatterson Posted July 31, 2011 Share #3 Posted July 31, 2011 Does iPhoto even work with DNG files, or just jpegs? If you're shooting with the M8.2 it's time to use Lightroom3, leave iPhoto behind, and get the most from your images.
maccarma Posted August 1, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted August 1, 2011 I'm using OSX LION and iPhoto '11 (version 9.1.5). Everything is updated....
andybarton Posted August 1, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 1, 2011 Macs read DNGs natively and have done for years. Can you see these files in the Finder? I do agree though, LR, Aperture or Capture One are the way to go, not iPhoto.

No problem with iPhoto 9.1.5 on my MacBookAir but i'm still on OS 10.6.8 so it might come from Lion i don't know sorry.
wstotler Posted August 3, 2011 Share #7 Posted August 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm using OSX LION and iPhoto '11 (version 9.1.5).Everything is updated.... As suggested above you can look at Lightroom. I'd also suggest that you seriously consider Aperture 3 as that will provide you with much-enhanced capabilities while retaining much of what you understand/use in iPhoto. Of note, Aperture 3 has "hooks" so that you can pull over/in your iPhoto libraries without much fuss. In terms of your current problem, I'm uncertain what's causing that. Sorry. Perhaps you can download the Aperture trial and try ingesting your images into that to see if it works? --> Apple - Aperture - Pro performance with iPhoto simplicity. Thanks, Will
mostebo Posted August 22, 2011 Share #8 Posted August 22, 2011 Try opening the mac app "Image Capture" when you connect your camera. You will then see all your images from the SD-card. Since you are using OSX Lion, the new Image Capture-app lets you import directly to iPhoto, Aperture or any other app/place you want your photos to go. framestore Posted August 22, 2011 Share #9 Posted August 22, 2011 Have you tried to opening the original (iPhoto) imported file on another apps (i.e. LR or Photoshop) ? mouse right-click and select, "show original" commands will open a folder that contains your photo. As other members suggested, I'd get LR but leave iPhoto.
Virginia Bill Posted August 27, 2011 Share #10 Posted August 27, 2011 You can get Aperture 3 through the App Store for $70; well worth it and more versatile than iPhoto.
