Hi Salim, perhaps I am a bit late on the discussion - great feedback has already been given - but I myself am going through a similar questioning right now (albeit a bit the other way round).

I've been using 50 mm lens for some time now and I have always enjoyed their FOV in the context of portraits. But when it comes to street photography or nature photography, I was always drawn more to a bit of a wider field of view - I currently have a Summicron C 40 which is superb as well. I have also done some portraits with a 35 summilux classic some time ago and I enjoyed that as well. I find myself more and more drawn to the slightly wider field of view than the 50 - my 90 Elmarit has been gathering dust for months now, I have never kept a 50 mm lens for a long time. But I've always kept a 35-40 lens and that seems to be my lens of choice.

I've been even thinking of wider lenses (such as a 28 or even the 24 Elmar). I think, as some others have said, I'd be trying out different lenses and focal lengths and perhaps what would be most advisable (to my mind at least), would be try them out - and even buy their cheaper (but as pointed out perfectly capable) counter parts such as Jupiters or Voigtander or Zeiss and try those focal lengths before committing to an expensive (and VERY difficult to come-by lenses.

Cheers, KM

I have both a 35 cron and a 50 lux. I use the 50 lux 95% of the time. I still use the 35 if I know I am going to need a wider angle. There is a big difference between the two lenses. If you shoot street, the 50 is indispensable. In my opinion you can go anywhere in the world with a 50 and be happy. :)

imperfiction -- i agree wholeheartedly with your last point. i bought the zeiss biogon 21mm and it is a great lens, more so with the software upgrade -- considering the cost and time on my camera. if the budget is not unlimited it makes sense to me to pay up for the lens most important to your work. for me, it is the 50mm1.4 summilux.

To me the Summicron is the best of both worlds, compactness and quality. I tried the 50mm Summilux Asph but decided to buy the Summicron

and never looked back, although the 50mm Summilux Asph is an amazing lens.

or what? a small used car? a home entertainment center? dinners out for four months?

if you only have a 35mm and are lookinig for a second lens, consider the 75 summicron.

not only is it an exceptional lens - which I guess is the only reason to consider it - it

gives you a bit of separation and creative flexibility from your current lens. You can always fill in with a 50 later.

Congratulations on your purchase - I got mine a fortnight ago from Richard Caplan, London while I was there - it took me awhile getting use to the 50mm from the 35mm. Enjoy your new lens.

Hi all, I loved my 50mm Lux during my trip in Thailand. I had the 35 cron, but never used it

I can safely say this lens will stay on the camera the most. I took 40 GB worth of photos, I will show them as the time goes by :) thanks all
