Â The lens is in overall good condition, but the coating of the front element is really DEAD!. It looks like the previous owner has "bad" cleaned it a millions of times, so it has lost a part fo the coating. Â My first though was recoating this element, someone knows where i can do that?. Â Do you know if this Elmarit has some special tip to dissasemble the front element? Â The other thought is why the previous owner dont use a UV filter on it. Any after-market recoating will degrade image quality, and you have no guaranty that the tolerances on the cut of the front lens have been maintained. I Join the advice to forget that item : items for USE is much better to be in good USER shape... the risks and costs of a restoration can vanify an apparent good deal. Â As a general rule the only lenses that are worth to acquire in less than B conditions are the rare collectibles, but the 19 R isn't such. Â I don't see reasons why there is something strange in mounting a UV filter on the 19 V1... maybe the previous owner simply disliked the idea to get such a BIG filter (82 mm !) ... the lens mount is very large, and I don't think there is a problem of vignetting due to a filter mount... Â The lens was used on a beach on a very windy day and I assumed that it was sand damage that caused the problem. Now I'm not so sure. andybarton Posted July 30, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted July 30, 2011 I don't use it any longer. It flares and the photographs are soft. I even sold the lens hood (no one wanted the lens..) Â My dealer sent it to his lens repair specialist, who returned it, saying there was nothing he could do with it. It is a nice paperweight, though. Â Don't buy that lens.
