Hi All,

2 Questions regarding the M8.2 discreet mode :

  • Is it bad for the shutter to use it all the time ? I mean, does it put extra stress on the shutter to delay recocking ?
  • Are there less vibrations when taking a picture; Less camera shake at longer shutter speeds? Anyone have experience with this

thanks

Not as far as I know. Other members have more information on the matter.

No. Any eventual camera shake from the recocking would be irrelevant since the exposure has already been made.

Discreet mode all the time. Haven't noticed any difference so far. Aside from deferred recocking of course. I don't shoot much in C mode though.

Agree. Feels much more like film. The shutter cocks when I want it to, not when it wants to. ;)

Any camera covering will dampen the noise. Movie cameras frequently come with 'blimps' which is a sound reducing cover to help the sound guy on location and avoid disturbance in discreet locations.

A point to remember is that you (the photographer) will always have a magnified impression of the noise of your camera. Partly because you are closer than anyone, partly because you feel it as well and you respond accordingly. You would be surprised how many nearby people don't 'hear' your camera, especially if they have not seen it there.
