StephenPatterson Posted July 11, 2011 Share #4 Posted July 11, 2011 So THAT's why my new 50 Summilux was so expensive!!! All joking aside for everyone who questions why Leica lenses are so much more expensive than high volume Asian producers you need only watch this video. Hand made, small batch production is always going to cost more than semi automated, high volume mfg. Now, I'm not talking about quality or whether other lenses are as good as Leica lenses, but rather that price here is largely a function of Leica's economies of scale. jaapv Posted July 12, 2011 Share #5 Posted July 12, 2011 Some Asian manufacturers (Olympus springs to mind) do produce a range of lenses that are not mass-produced. However the prices of those lenses don't differ that much from Leica
Doc Henry Posted July 12, 2011 Share #6 Posted July 12, 2011 Thank you for the link. And I had reason to always trust in Leica lenses for 40 years now Just look at how it's done to understand that quality is expensive and I'm not complaining Best Henry
