village idiot! Posted July 5, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 5, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) After spending a good amount of time yesterday researching where I could order a new lens cap I threw my arms up in the air and gave up. I'm trying again today to see if anyone here knows where it can be ordered from in the states. I can't believe it's this hard to find the most obvious replacement part on the X1 I did see the retractable one from rainbowimaging but I'm not really interested in it. Advertisement Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Hi village idiot!, Take a look here Original lens cap replacement in the US?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted July 5, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 5, 2011 Have you asked your nearest Leica dealer about it?
village idiot! Posted July 5, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted July 5, 2011 i did but my local leica dealer is 80 miles away and if they order it they said i have to come pick it up. maybe there was a communication break down when he said that, i was sort of surprised. i figured of all the leica dealers in the US and places like adorama that someone would have it listed on their website to order from but i've totally struck out so far. andybarton Posted July 5, 2011 Share #4 Posted July 5, 2011 Any Leica dealer that won't post a lens cap to a customer deserves to have his dealership removed from him. Speak with Dale in Florida. I am sure that they will be more accommodating.
wda Posted July 5, 2011 Share #5 Posted July 5, 2011 i did but my local leica dealer is 80 miles away and if they order it they said i have to come pick it up. .... I would like to think this is a misunderstanding. Any Leica dealer should be only too happy to post you an accessory. Most would probably hold the popular sizes in stock, so there should be no delay. village idiot! Posted July 7, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted July 7, 2011 ah ha!! just figured it out. i called the dealer again and they discouraged me from ordering it thorough them saying that it takes a very long time to get leica to send replacement parts. i tried calling a dealer even further away and he pretty much said the same thing, although he offered to place the order. i finally decided to contact leica usa directly and called this number: 800-222-0118 after going through a few menu options i directed my call through to the replacement parts person. he took my order and said it's be shipped out tomorrow. how about that!!! earleygallery Posted July 8, 2011 Share #8 Posted July 8, 2011 Begs the question why they can't then send stuff out via the dealers like that! Odd.
village idiot! Posted July 8, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted July 8, 2011 the guy in NJ i talked with said that the dealers don't think they sell enough X1's to keep lens caps in stock, which of course makes sense; however i'm not sure why both dealers i talked with felt they have such difficulties ordering from leica directly. maybe they place orders online and don't actually talk to a person. thebarnman Posted July 9, 2011 Share #10 Posted July 9, 2011 You must have talked to Dave. I was on the phone with him Tuesday morning. I recently sent my R9 to NJ to be fixed. At the same time, I mentioned to Dave my little plastic cap for the PC connection was missing. He said he'd pop one on for me!
thebarnman Posted July 9, 2011 Share #11 Posted July 9, 2011 In fact now that I think about it, I have a 90mm ® lens I bought used several years ago. It came with a something other than the original lens cap. I ought to call Dave and see if he can set me up!
