Date format...

Hi,

I've changed that some days ago as I received this as suggestion from an US member.

Before it was the German (?) format DD.MM.YYYY ("24.12.2011") now it is MM/DD/YYYY.

I'm not sure what is more common for English speaking countries...

Best regards from Bonn

Andreas

Mine has also changed recently and I can't find out how to put it back to how it should be. It must be on the server somewhere.

I will drop a note to Andreas

...thanks, Andy. I was beginning to think it was the coffee.

...the current format (MM/DD/YYYY) is a US thing. English speaking countries use DD/MM/YY or DD/MM/YYYY.

Day/Month/Year is the standard adopted by most of the world and is far more logical than putting the month first.

Given that most members are NOT in the US, please can we have our dates back, or make it a user choosable option?

I must have spent half an hour this week looking for a way of changing it back to how it should be.

dd/mm/yyyy is pretty much the standard based on population.

USA (mm/dd/yyyy) still lives with (suffers from) inches, BTU, gallons, miles etc. although Canada seems to be even less predictable.

See here for sorting of countries and their endianness :D

In the UK, we have pounds, kilogrammes, miles, litres, kilometers, inches, stones, hundredweight all co-existing reasonably happily, despite what Brussels say we should be doing. The imperial system will exist so long as there are old farts like me who grew up with feet and inches, pounds and stones. Fahrenheit has pretty much died a death now, though.

But we still have the date in the correct format :)

This reminded me of something that happened to me very recently. ...

I looked up the yellow pages for someone who made small shop signs and phoned the first one I found.

Sure, we can do that. Just give me the exact size you need it to be.

Size already jotted down on a piece of paper, I said, ''171/2 by 171/2'' .. inches.

This guy who doesn't even know me promptly said, ''Man, you must be old !'' ..

True story. ..

............ :o

Interestingly, my Son, who is 18, gives his height in feet and inches and his weight in stones...

I use Centigrade in the Winter, and Farenheit in the Summer, 'cos small numbers sound cold, and big numbers sound hot...

Weights and measures have to be something that we can relate to and that is partly nurture and partly culture. It leaves me completely confused, for instance, if someone describes the area of an aircraft carrier deck in terms of "three football pitches" - I have no idea at all what that means - but tell me that it's 4 acres and I can visualise quite well.

My dear, sweet, grey-haired old mother always expressed weight gain or loss in bags of sugar, btw... ;)

Regards,

Bill

while you're looking at ways to fix basic things, could we please return to "buy and sell" and "forum" logins being linked. i remember it used to be possible to log in to the forum, then switch to the advertisements and already be logged in?

thanks

Rick,

I'd really love to get this issue solved - but this is much more complicated...

The old software was a complete mess - the only advantage was the common log in, the rest caused days and weeks of frustrating work for me.

I'm still looking for a new software that integrates perfectly into the forum - but no success until now...

Andreas
