Just one little question:

Is it fair to say that the display isn't a real reliable reference when it comes to image review? I normally use the Histogram anyway, but i noticed the images to be much sharper and brighter compared to the display of the M8.

Thanks

Very few users rely on the display. The M8 is still halfway decent, but the M9 is a lot worse. Let's say it is not one of the major selling points of the camera. Any display, of any quality, is pretty useless to judge an image anyway, so no great loss.

The histogram has a very nice feature. If you zoom in it will display the histogram of the zoomed part only. That way you can "walk"your exposure through the image.

Thanks for the wonderful tip Jaap! Very useful!

Now i only need to solve the problem of hooking up the USB port of my M8 to my Macbook Pro with Snow leopard. The MBP doesn't recognize the M8. But I'll have a look when i get home (don't have my laptop with me right now). I've read the forum regarding this problem and i should look at using Aperture 3.

Cheers,

Joël

DONT!! Use a card reader.

Duidelijk! :D

The only problem i have (well not exactly a problem, more an inconvenience) i don't like taking of the grip every time. But i guess that's just something i have to get used to

Thanks again for the tips!

If you want a half case (or even a full one), have a look at an Artist & Artisan one. I have one for my camera and the quality of fit and the leather is superb. Nowhere near as bulky as the Luigi ones and with much finer stitching.

If you use an 8 Gb card the number of images is approx the same for the card as the battery. In general, I trust the durability of rubber flap on the USB (I guess there is one there, I have never opened it on any M8 or 9 since 2006...) less than the bottom plate. Every Leica bottom plate since the M3 has the user's tooth marks on it from holding it when changing film, batteries, cards....

Hi there forum,...

I'm so excited!!!!

Welcome to Leica-M ownership and to the forum!

With the hand-grip included, essential in my book, you may not even need to consider the Thumbs-UP at pthis stage. See how you like the handling after one month.

The Leica neoprene case is one of the cheapest accessories and quite a worthwhile addition. I use it for certain outings or when packing just the camera and lens in a piece of travel luggage. While it is not waterproof, it certainly keeps out dust etc when out walking in some environments. There are two versions; the shorter would suit the 28 to 50mm lenses. Enjoy!

Thanks for the advise! They look really good.

I would like to see one in person before buying one. The only problem is i don't know any dealer in the Netherlands that sell these kind of half cases. They only have the normal Nappa Leica case for the M8 and M9.

My USB flap is still pretty tight, so i guess it has not been used that much.

I recently bought a Sandisk Ultra 4GB card but maybe it's better to buy the 8GB version as you stated.

Thanks! I do like the feel of the camera and lens as it is right now.

The lens itself is really light so it doesn't tend to flip forwards like with an Elmarit 90mm i had on it yesterday.

Thanks for the tip!

How do you attach the thumbie on the M8? by glue..?

Joe,

The Thumbie attaches to the M8 with industrial strength double-sided sticky tape, the type they use to stick the badges on cars. I've used one on my M8 for a year or so and it's as solid as the day I put it on.

Pete.

:D

Joël welkom! (& groeten uit De Haag)

On a PC you can remote fire the shutter via the USB, and even download the image files but you need to batch rename them to get the correct (.DNG) extension. Probably not useful for a mac.

Having said, the HAMA card reader is pretty good & cheap.

Dank je SJP ;-) Groeten uit Amersfoort :D

I already have a card reader i normally use for my D700's CF cards. And my Macbook Pro has a built in SD reader so I'm fine ;-)

I just have to get used to removing the grip to access the SD slot on the M8 :) But if that's all.... i don't mind :D

Cheers Joël
