JKphotography Posted July 4, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there forum, My name is Joël and I'm from Amersfoort, the Netherlands. I've been a photographer for about 8 years now, and since nearly 3 years I'm using the Nikon D700 with 24-70mm f2.8 and 14mm f2,8. I love it to death but i would like a smaller, lighter travel companion next to my D700 that i could take with me on my journeys abroad. Tonight I'm picking up a mint black Leica M8 with just under 5000 actuations in original box and a Leica Elmarit M 28mm f2.8 ASPH (new version). I've never owned a Leica before but always dreamed about it. No the time has finally come The price is something that eventually convinced me to get it.....i can buy this mint set for € 2500,00 I'm so excited!!!! k_g_wolf ✝ Posted July 4, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 4, 2011 This sounds quite reasonable if it´s in good condition and there is no C/S- backlog. The lens is very interesting for the M8, gives you app. a 35mm- view. Don´t forget to count in a 39mm-IR- Filter. Best regards GEORG
jaapv Posted July 4, 2011 Share #3 Posted July 4, 2011 That is a good price - feel free to ask for guidance, if needed, on this forum. In the M9 forum there is a FAQ, many posts there are applicable to the M8 as well. If you are a rangefinder/Leica digital firsttimer, it is very useful to read through. Yes - and don't forget the UV/IR filter that is absolutely neccessary - B&W 486 is fine as well.

Best regards GEORG Hi GEORG, The set is in absolute mint condition with all original packaging and documentation. UV IR filters are included in this set with their boxes. He also includes the M8 Grip for this price, so i guess I'm lucky I'm going to test it thoroughly tonight, and i made a list of things to check before i purchase the set. Thanks!!! Hi there!, Thanks for the warm welcome! I have used a Voigtländer Bessa R in the past, so rangefinder camera's in general aren't new to me. But owning a Leica is a completely new thing haha. I've been reading reading the forum for the past two weeks before i took the plunge. And so far it has been very helpful indeed! I'm an avid reader and like to take time to familiarize myself with something even though i don't have it in my possession yet ;-) Cheers

Hi JK Welcome to the forum ! In addition to what was said Georg and Jaap, I recommend a second Leica battery as backup and a protective film on the screen if you have not yet Do not forget the new firmware too ! improving the speed of preview in my opinion (SDHC Sandisk) The handgrip is very convenient and useful Good photos ! Best Henry Hi Henry, Thanks! A second battery would be just the thing i need to purchase first! I believe the current owner already installed a GSS Screenprotector (glass). And i will be bringing along my laptop with a new SD card (Sandisk Ultra 4GB SDHC) and the firmware so i can update it when I'm there tonight. There are a couple of things i would like to purchase in the next few months. I would really like to have the Thumbs Up and a nice Luigi half case. But after i buy the M8 tonight, I'm pretty much broke haha. Thanks again!! Any other tips i might not know are more than welcome!! LeicaBraz Posted July 4, 2011 Share #10 Posted July 4, 2011 Agree on the Thumbs Up. Really makes a difference in handling. Congrats!!
GeebeeWien Posted July 4, 2011 Share #11 Posted July 4, 2011 Hi Joel, sounds like a very good deal to my ears! If you are broke at the moment, maybe consider a Mr Zhou half case for the beginning - I got one and really love it. It's very well made and has a good fit, allthough it has not the extra-fine leather quality of a Luigi case I know from a friend of mine, but it's only around 70 EUR.....and it does protect well. Enjoy your camera, I just started with my M8 a few weeks ago and absolutely love it!

Something i'm going to buy next month, together with one of Luigi's fine cases! Cheers

Hi GeebeeWien, Well, i don't like spending money twice ;-) so I'd wait until i have the funds to purchase the Luigi half case. Thanks for the tip though! I'm on my way to the current owner right now! I'll post some pictures soon! Cheers
farnz Posted July 5, 2011 Share #14 Posted July 5, 2011 Welcome to the forum! € 2500,00 for a good condition, boxed M8 + 28 Elmarit asph + UV/IR filters + grip is an excellent price! You might like to consider a Thumbie rather than the Thumbs Up because it doesn't put strain on your hot shoe and leaves it available for a flash or flash extension cord. The thumb pad is also canted so imho it's more natural to use. Pete.

framestore Posted July 5, 2011 Share #16 Posted July 5, 2011 You might like to consider a Thumbie rather than the Thumbs Up Pete. How do you attach the thumbie on the M8? by glue..?
menos I M6 Posted July 5, 2011 Share #17 Posted July 5, 2011 Welcome to the forum and congratulations for this deal - the best price for such a set, I have ever seen in fact. You want first to check the sensor for issues (red pixel line - search here on the forum or google). If the sensor is still one, that would have this issue, the camera has to go back to Solms for a fix. I would do this the first, you get the camera and do a deal with the seller, should it be an issue.
JKphotography Posted July 5, 2011 Author Share #18 Posted July 5, 2011 Thanks everyone!! The seller mentioned it was a good and "sharp" price as we say in the Netherlands. He really handled this camera with absolute care. No scuffs, marks, dust or whatever. The serial number is: 3201598 Is this high? He mentioned buying it late 2009. No sensor issues, i updated the firmware on the spot and preview is really quick (also depends on the type of card you have). All of the booklets and warranty cards are included. None of the service or warranty cards are filled out. I already sent an email to Leica Solms to ask if they could move the product registration to my name (if this is possible at all). The reason he sold this set, was that he wanted upgrade to the M9. He also had a brand new Elmarit M 90mm f2.8 he wanted to sell.....for € 650,00 I really liked the price, but the only problem was/is: i didn't have any money left I'll upload some pictures of the set later on this day. JKphotography Posted July 5, 2011 Author Share #20 Posted July 5, 2011 Congratulations on your new M8. Welcome to the club. Thanks Holybasil! It does take some getting used to, but that is to be expected with a camera like this. So far so good, hoping to take some pictures today!
