Erik_A Posted July 3, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone compared their M8 and 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit with a Fuji X100? It seems that the field of view and depth of field would be the same. How is the high ISO noise in the files?
Advertisement Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Hi Erik_A, Take a look here Leica M8 (w/ 21mm f/2.8) vs Fuji X100. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted July 3, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 3, 2011 The X100 is an APS-C camera vs APS-H for the M8 so to get approx. the same field of view one has to use a 28mm lens on the Leica. So to compare same FoV ad aperture, we should choose the Summicron-M 28/2 i.e. the best 28/2 ever made vs the good little Fuji. Not a fair match at all but not the same price either by far. Edit: High iso is much better with the Fuji.
Erik_A Posted July 3, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted July 3, 2011 So right, I changed the post to read 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit The X100 is an APS-C camera vs APS-H for the M8 so to get approx. the same field of view one has to use a 28mm lens on the Leica. lct Posted July 3, 2011 Share #4 Posted July 3, 2011 So right, I changed the post to read 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit Which is the best 28/2.8 ever as well i'm afraid. Hard to compete at low isos.
Holybasil Posted July 3, 2011 Share #5 Posted July 3, 2011 I got both. If you want ISO performance get the x100. If you want everything els get the M8 and 28mm. It's a ridiculous comparison. Just like Digitalrev's comparison between the x100 and M9.
Erik_A Posted July 8, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted July 8, 2011 Zack Arias just posted this excellent review of the Fujifilm x100 : Fuji x100 :: Review • Photography By Zack Arias • ATL • 404-939-2263 • studio@zackarias.com I am impressed, although I think that I will stick with my Olympus GF1 and 20mm 1.7 because I shoot photos of my kids at close (less than 3') range and wide open at f1.7 quite often, and the GF1 just works very well for this. jamesbutler Posted July 9, 2011 Share #7 Posted July 9, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have both and the fuji X100 is a good camera but it is a glorified point and shoot you can't compare it to an M series camera. If you want a compact camera to keep with you at all times to take quick pics and you want something a bit nicer than a canon G11 the x100 is perfect, but I do not get the joy out of shooting with the X100 as I get with shooting the M8.
