stig Posted June 29, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Four thirds to Micro Four Thirds. Has anyone stuck the Kit lens from the Digilux 3, the Leica D Vario–Elarit 2.8-3.5/14-50 mm on a Panasonic GF1/2 via the adapter? If so…what were the results? I quite like the look of the new GF3. The lens will be massive in comparison to the body but combining the two intrigues me. If no one has done it, does anyone see any issues with the combination? gyoung Posted October 9, 2011 Share #3 Posted October 9, 2011 re-posting this, just on the off chance anyone has any thoughts on the matter. I do seem to remember discussion of this, gist of it from memory is that autofocus depends on individual camera and firmware state, have you tried a search of the forum? Try also 4/3 forum Four Thirds User discussion forum Gerry, who quite fancies this lens on my G1
Paolo.Battista Posted October 9, 2011 Share #4 Posted October 9, 2011 Apart from compatibility problems, it simply is quite odd to use that lenses on the m4/3 bodies. The Leica 4/3 lenses are all about the tonal resolution (I mean, the capability of recording the finest tonal variatons). That's the primary differentiation in respect of Zuiko new lenses. The best compromise is their use on Digilux 3, Every Pana Sensor after that one, has gained ISO's capability but left tonal resolution (and that's why we want Leitz and other lenses on a good sensor most of times). Obviously things can change, but not in the next months. Paolo (By the way, I tried to upgrade from Digilux 3 to new Oly bodies (E-3 and E-5), but IQ is not the same (although those Oly bodies are really outstanding otherwise). (By the way n°2: My father's old NIkkor 28 Ais f:2,8... terrific, wonderful, and whatever you can say on the Digilux 3 body. I don't understand why, since on my D2x it was quite ordinary.... digi2ap Posted October 9, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 9, 2011 I have this lens with a Panasonic GH1 and manual focus by wire and no autofocus makes it a less great lens for photography than it was on the Digilux 3. I do use it a lot for video though on the GH1 and I'm yet to try it on the GH2 which offers autofocus albeit slow. I'd make sure whichever camera you choose has autofocus compatibility and that, I think, doesn't include the GF1 but I'm not sure about the GF2. If no one has done it, does anyone see any issues with the combination? Sorry for my tardiness, but just saw the thread. I have and use the Leica D Vario-Elmar 14-150/f3.5-5.6 ASPH lens with adapter on my GF1 body. Have many lenses for the GF1 and it IS BY FAR my most favorite. My wife though likes the Leica DG Macro-Emarit 45mm f2.8 ASPH very, very much. The results to us were just stunning. We were so surprised what the camera/lenses can do on this platform. Just for further info, the balance of the kit with the 14-150 is nice for me, but a little big for my wife's hands. I see your 14-50 is about 3.5 oz (100 grams) less than my 14-150. Hope this helps. We almost always use the EVF which makes bright outdoor shooting a breeze.
dugby Posted November 5, 2011 Share #7 Posted November 5, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a D3 with the L-ES014050 Leica-D Vario-Elmarit f2.8 14mm-50mm lens and was going to buy a GF1 but was put off by Compatibilities of DMC-GF1 | Compatibility | Digital Camera | Product Support | Support | Panasonic Global which stated it was manual focus only. (Interesting that the Vario Elmar f3.5 14mm-150mm has better support on the GFn series.) But now I see that on a GF2 and GF3 the Leica-D Vario-Elmarit f2.8 14mm-50mm lens now has AFS support Compatibilities of DMC-GF2 | Compatibility | Digital Camera | Product Support | Support | Panasonic Global Compatibilities of DMC-GF3 | Compatibility | Digital Camera | Digital AV | Consumer Products | Support | Panasonic Global Compatibility Information | Digital Camera | Digital AV | Consumer Products | Support | Panasonic Global I just may re-consider it....... but the in-hand combo will look odd Welcome, dear visitor! algrove Posted November 6, 2011 Share #8 Posted November 6, 2011 Dugby- That's exactly my setup. What a winner. Probably have taken 1500-2000 images with this combo alone. It's a thrill to use even though the lens was not cheap by any means.
