my M8 complains about "SD-card full"

As I said, it has been resolved in the meantime and I am happily using my M8 again for some time already.

BTW, one of the earliest signs of foreboding was an ever so faint, very high-pitched beep, only just audible, when the red lamp was on (writing to disk, I suppose) in combination with extended writing times.

My hearing is very good, though, so the longer writing times may be a better predictor for some.

It appeared as soon as the problem emerged and went away when the camera was back from Solms.

Reformat the card to FAT32 in the computer, then again in the camera. Never delete images as that does not remove the items in the table of contents, ie directory. If it is full, no image can be assigned a storage location, ie card full.

Buy a card from a trusted source, not Ebay. Sandisks are frequently forged and they do not work to spec.

Do not use more than 16 GB. Super fast cards tend not to work well. The camera electronics are the limiting factor.

Charge a "good" battery. Clean SD and battery contacts.
