Jai, if at first you don't succeed - persevere. I had the M6TTL 10 years ago, sold it because I needed to, not wanted to and last year bought the M9. At first and because my eyes are 10 years older I thought oh, dear, what have I done so backed it up with Canon Autofocus. Travelled with both by which time I was back on the bike and the Canon was an annoying dead weight. It all came back to me - just took a little time and some useful aids like 1.25x magnifier, correction diopter lens and a Leicagoodie Shade for low light situations. I fell in love with Leica all over again, this time I will NOT let this one go. Enjoy and congrats!!

Without an extra handgrip or other accessories, is it possible to hold the M9 for long hours while walking through a city just by wrapping the strap around your right hand and thus loosely gripping the M9-P body?

Jai, I've been using this combo (Sling + Y-strap + Hook) for three years now and never switched back to the normal strap.

You can take pictures in both ways, taking the camera hanging to the Y-strap to your eye or holding the camera in your hand with your fingers slipped through the Sling (I'm used to do that for hours).

It is quite inexpensive, you have to buy the Y-strap, the Hook and the Sling.

Get your SLING for the Leica M!

Get HOOKed!

Get your STRAP for the Leica M!

Obviously, the only way I'm involved with Leicagoodies is as a very happy customer.

Thanks Karina & Epand.

Jaap - when I talked about weatherproofing I meant humidity getting inside the lens elements which creates a mist, fungal growth and more. What you said on the seal breaking on removing the lens from the body is obvious : ) so to sum it all the humidity can get inside the lens elements?

Humidity and fungal growth in lens and M9?

Ok - so I just got off the phone speaking to the technical department, Leica, Germany. I asked him if the Summilux lens (or all new lens) are not weatherproof and would I have problem with high humidity (Singapore) and would that affect my lens and give me fungus growth in the lens.

He said to have open air on my equipment and that every two years to have them cleaned for fungal growth.

Right from the horse's mouth.. or is he wrong? My canon lenses are all weatherproof. But my 30 yrs 50 Canon lens has has fungal attacks off and on. Do I expect the same from my 35 Lux? or is just not true. Do I need to drown my lens and m9 in a sachets of silicone?

Hi jai

I'd use a drying agent that you could rejenerate in oven.

The lenses are not sealed.

Yes it can and even when sealed it is a matter of time before humidity equalizes. That is not what. Weatherproofing is for. It is meant for short term moisture exclusion. It will not stop internal condensation either.

I'm kind of a purist, so don't want to visually spoil the beauty of the mono-block Leica design with the Leica hand grip. Thumbs Up - way too expensive.

I'll just design a new hand grip, make in leather and then post it here for you see.

What is the warranty on lenses and body? Is the Leica warranty different in each country? I'm buying it in Asia. Its international warranty right?

Please tell me other objective things to make me happy on the move.

Can 'dropping' the camera on the table (like when you misjudge the height of the surface) by 2 inches damage the camera. Is the 35 Lux and M9P strong to take a soft beating? Or are they all fragile? Does mis-calibration on the M9 happen due to extreme use and how do you notice it?

Hi JAI ! welcome to the Leica Community

For all your questions the sensible answer is the rules are as for any camera user who is much care for his tools and stuffs can enjoy a life long use of the Leica camera. Whether it is Digital or Analog every thing depend on how you use it. I don't think there are any water-proof camera or whether proof camera exist. There are more rugged and protectively developed and designed cameras against hard conditions like moisture ad humid. When they say water proof you can do diving under water with a Watch but not with a Camera without a special Housing for that. So Leica is one of the most rugged Cameras for any field. It includes the lenses. They never use any plastic.

I own two cameras M8 (one year) and my older one which is a M6. That is in my hand for 14 years and I bought of course as a pre-used. I am posting a picture of it now so you can tell me how long more I can use it .

Don't worry too much. You made a good choice and get ready to do your homework now.

Enjoy your experience
