I became interested in leica r glass when I discovered that the 100/2.8 elmarit had fantastic image quality and could be used on nikon (I apologise :( ) with a leitax convertor. I`ve been doing a little research and I`ll hopefully buy the 90 and 180 f2 apo lenses after the 100/2.8.

After I`ve got the r lenses I want, if the film camera bug bites, I`ll try an R9 and convert my r glass back from nikon, but for now I`m too far into macro and I`m not sure if an m9 would be suitable

I`m also on the nikongear forum, but thought the l-camera forum would be a better source for r glass advice. I`ve searched this forum, but cant find any threads or sections dedicated to r glass. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

There hasn't been anything new introduced in the Leica R range in a number of years, so even if there's no current posting about Leica R on a forum, it would still pay to search the archives. The only "outdated" posts would be about film emulsions that are no longer available. About the only discussion that needs to be current is about using R lenses on the latest/newest DSLR bodies.

Nikongear is poor resource on R lens conversion. On the other hand with Bjorn & Co at the helm it is excellent for all thing Nikon no doubt about it.

If you visit NikonCafe you may be for a surprise, there is a very nice thread on Lens Lust forum discussing R lens convertion to F mount with plenty of sample images. There is a small band of R to F modifiers at work there ;). You may have to register (it is free) to view it.

Fredmiranda also have good selection of images taken with converted R lenses on Canon & Nikon cameras and maybe some Sony.

I have started my Leica life with APO Elmarit 180mm conversion to F (reversed to R recently) and never looked back. Please feel free to PM as I have converted almost all R lenses worth converting.

Might help if you start a thread asking specifically what it is you want to know, assuming you can't find the answer already using the search function?

If you are using Nikon for digital and want to try the R lenses with film, why not just buy something like a Nikon FE?

Thank you, James. I`ll ask more specific questions when I buy the 100/2.8 (on monday, along with a nikon d3x, if paypal pull their finger out) and convert it. Right now I`m trying to find more general info on r glass:- e.g. I`ve read that there is a green tint to r glass images, so I`ll investigate that, as well as other stuff as it comes along. I find forums a fantastic way to learn from others experience, and am very greatful of any advice people give.

I`d not considered the nikon FE, but its so cheap that I wont lose any money if I dont like film

photo.net still has its archive of Leica R posts which are invaluable.

The value of photo.net's R threads was compromised by one individual with an axe to grind who posted under numerous fictitious 'handles' and even had conversations with himself in some threads before the moderators booted him out.

Even with the few crazies, there's a ton of good R information in the archives of the photo.net thread.

I think I know who you're talking about, and he's not in every thread.
