jaapv Posted June 20, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 20, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) With the M9, my current image backup (Braun Imagebank 80 Gb) is rather small. Can anybody recommend an image backup (i.e. harddisk-reader) of about 500 Gb? It must be compact and preferably light.

Griswold Posted June 20, 2011 Share #2 Posted June 20, 2011 Nexto... fantastic, small, effective. Nexto DI Nexto Video Storage Device (500GB) NESV-ND27255054 B&H Off loads a SD or CF card faster than a computer transfer. Makes a time and date stamped folder each time you insert a card and do a transfer. Shuts down when it is done, when you turn it back on it confirms the last file transfer as successful. Lacie portable hard drives are good. Don't know who sells them in Holland so check them out on Amazon or http://www.warehouseexpress.com
Jeff S Posted June 21, 2011 Share #4 Posted June 21, 2011 I use this guy with my M8.2. Should work equally well with the M9. Here is a review. Jeff
MarkP Posted June 21, 2011 Share #5 Posted June 21, 2011 Jaap, Agree with Jeff. I travelled with a Colorsafe UDMA with 500GB Hard drive and was very pleased with it. Incredibly fast transfers from card to device and device to computer. Long battery life between recharges. Screen quality is poor (makes the M9 display look like an iPod retina display) and finish is by no means that of an iPod. However, I found the device to be reliable and fast. Bought without hard-drive directly from their Website in USA. Prompt delivery and had someone local put in a high-quality hard drive (although instructions make it easy enough for DIY) Regards, Mark

wattsy Posted June 21, 2011 Share #7 Posted June 21, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Presumably the Braun uses a standard 2.5" SATA or IDE hard drive? Why not just crack open the case and replace the drive inside with a larger capacity one? A 500GB 2.5" drive is about £30 nowadays.
jaapv Posted June 21, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted June 21, 2011 It appears the firmware cannot handle larger disks - even their newest "pixeltank" is equipped with 80 and no upgrade option.
tdtaylor Posted June 22, 2011 Share #9 Posted June 22, 2011 I use the Colorspace UMDA, and bought it without the HD. If I remember correctly, put a 200gb drive in. Use it occasionally, and works fairly well. Should note that it is not small, and there may be smaller, better backups of this nature out there by now. Mine is about 2 years old. pico Posted June 22, 2011 Share #10 Posted June 22, 2011 Is there a small, portable device that supports PTP so that one does not have to remove the SD card?
jaapv Posted June 22, 2011 Author Share #11 Posted June 22, 2011 I decided to go for the Hyperdrive Colorspace 500 Gb, but not the UDMA. That one is indeed a bit large. The one without playback has the same storage functionality but is a lot smaller.

sparkie Posted June 23, 2011 Share #14 Posted June 23, 2011 thanks. you're going for the previous model by the looks. i can't find it on adorama, bhphoto or ebay. looks like it might be discontinued. are you getting the casing only? - if so, what type of drive are you putting in. i was thinking if anyone has put in an SSD, would be more shock resistant than a mechanical HDD
viramati Posted June 23, 2011 Share #15 Posted June 23, 2011 strikes me that you could get a small notebook for less money than some of these devices and with a larger hard drive. Not that I could recommend any particular model but just an idea
sparkie Posted June 23, 2011 Share #16 Posted June 23, 2011 yeah, i thought of getting the 11" MBA (will not consider any windose alternatives) but currently the max SSD is 128GB. i could work with this, but its $1,200 USD. still not ruled it out yet though! Still, if it turns out to be unavailable, it will have to be the UDMA, despite its larger size.
tobey bilek Posted June 23, 2011 Share #18 Posted June 23, 2011 Seagate 500 GB USB 2 . $58 at Amazon... Nearly silent, in fact I have to get my ear really close to hear it. You do need a laptop to other to drive it.
