Dannybuoy Posted June 27, 2011 Share #81 Posted June 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) There's something about 16gb cards on M9s. I lost a load of images just after I bought my camera last December. Have stuck to 8gb card since and had no problems at all. Hope the new firmware doesnt change that! Can you try recovering the files with some 3rd party software? The files might still be on the card but not readable by the camera or your computer. Give it a go. You mitt be able to rescue them. otto.f Posted June 27, 2011 Share #82 Posted June 27, 2011 There's something about 16gb cards on M9s.. Can't confirm that. I had a hiccup yesterday after shooting a dance-happening, 50 shots or so. I had to take another picture to get access to my images again, the screen was dead. It happended with an 8Gb Sandisk Extreme card
wlaidlaw Posted June 27, 2011 Share #83 Posted June 27, 2011 I have a feeling that the issue maybe some Extreme III cards rather than the size. The only time I have ever had an issue with the M9 (upgrading from 1.160 to 1.162) was with a 4GB Extreme III. Wilson

k-hawinkler Posted June 27, 2011 Author Share #85 Posted June 27, 2011 Hi Wilson, Thanks again. Actually there was at least one participant. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/1742376-post45.html As part of this thread I also learned that an Extreme is just a rebranded Extreme III. I just ordered these by Leica recommended memory cards: SanDisk Ultra 16 GB Class 4 SDHC Flash Memory Card SDSDRH-016G-A11 SANDISK SDSDHV-016G-A15 Card, SDHC, 16GB, Class 4, Ultra II, VideoVideo and Transcend 16 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card with USB Card Reader TS16GSDHC6-P2E Best, K-H. Today I have been using SanDisk Ultra 16 GB Class 4 SDHC . So far one corrupted image that required formatting on my MacBook Pro before I could get rid of the corrupted file. K-H. kaiwing Posted June 27, 2011 Share #86 Posted June 27, 2011 I got similar issue on Sunday shooting 5 pictures saving PNG (uncompressed) + JPEG. I viewed all the pictures. Then I took out the SD card inserted to iMac and used Adobe Lightroom to import. By then I found there was no image. I put it back into the M9 and the images are gone. The older images in the SD card were still there. My SD card is a 16G Toshiba card. Never had a problem like this before. I ended up formatting the card in M9 again and it works again. Did you lock the card before reading it out. That prevents things like this. Most probably something happened in the computer.
steelduck Posted July 9, 2011 Share #89 Posted July 9, 2011 I have exactly the same problem as the first post with four different memory cards. Two 8GB Sandisk Ultras and 2 8GB Lexar Pros. I never had any such problem before the firmware update.
wlaidlaw Posted July 9, 2011 Share #90 Posted July 9, 2011 I have exactly the same problem as the first post with four different memory cards. Two 8GB Sandisk Ultras and 2 8GB Lexar Pros. I never had any such problem before the firmware update. Sorry to hear about your issue. Please tell both your dealer and your local Leica distributor with as much detail as possible. Camera serial number, lens or lenses, light conditions, age, size and make of cards, exact details of what happened and the sequence of events. The more people that let Leica know, the easier it may be to track down the exact cause of the bug. It is most likely an unexpected and unpredictable interaction between various sub-routines in the firmware, that are only triggered under a specific set of conditions. It is a long time since I was writing software (about 25 years and then in RPG-2 & 3 languages) but I well remember a number of times where we had the "how the *@$&+! did that happen" event. henning Posted July 10, 2011 Share #91 Posted July 10, 2011 In case anyone's interested, in my M8s and 9s I've generally used Transcend cards. First 8Gb Class 6 and now generally 16Gb Class 10's. Never a hiccup, either before or after the last firmware updates. I did have a problem once with a Panasonic 4Gb card (class 4 I believe, that I got with another camera). That one produced 'zero byte' files for me once, and once only. As I had not used that card for a while, my first suspicion is that it was a contact corrosion problem. I tried to replicate the problem, but couldn't. This was writing DNG's only, my usual practice. BTW, the Transcend 16Gb class 10 cards I use cost $25 each here locally. I see absolutely no point is spending more for a card. Henning

Yup, I am afraid that happens not only to my M9. Which firmware version were you running on your M9? Any more details about which settings were active on your M9? Thanks for the info, best, K-H.
