According to this site: Verrekijker Show Aanbiedingen, "QM2 Leica models are new with full warranty. with possible minor cosmetic defects in the lining of the viewer."—i. e. factory seconds.

Oh yes, indeed. Is that a Dutch dealer thing or does this "QM2" designation officially come from Leica Camera AG? Anyway—when it comes from a serious and honorable dealer then I'd say it's a good opportunity to get a Leica product at a reduced price.

I doubt it. Afaik Leica does not sell seconds. Dodgy. I have never heard of the shop before I googled it today.

... so indeed, if designates a "slightly defective" product... could simply mean Question Mark 2... :D "I have bought a Summilux... ??"

A serious manufacturer doesn't sell such items : it's a marketing tool for vendors of "Persian" tapestry and out-of-date Christmas cakes sold in January... :D

In the USA (and maybe elsewhere) Leica sells "Code U" products - which are cameras and lenses (and probably sports optics as well) that have never been sold, but have been used. Things like the sales reps' demo equipment, trade show samples, bodies from the "a la carte" samples kits, etc.

1 year warranty, 70-80% of the "new" retail price. I got a "Code U" 35 f/1.4 ASPH (non-FLE) for $3,100 just 4 months ago. Couldn't resist at that price.

The shop where I work now got a Code U 75 Summarit about the same time - LNIB but with a reduced warranty and price.

Yes, but those are factory demos and refurbs, which Leica makes sure they are 100% up to specificati on, and not seconds, which by definition are out of spec, but "good enough " Leica would never sell those.

I thought I would revive this thread because the store where I work did, indeed, get an offer from our Leica rep last week for several "QM2" (she used the exact phrase) lenses.

We took a 28 EM ASPH and a 50 f/2.5 Summarit (the 50 sold Saturday)

And they are - essentially - "factory seconds". Items never used, but with some minor cosmetic flaw. Come with full new Leica warranty (unlike Code U demo or refurbished equipment) - and a 10% price discount.

I inspected the two lenses we got, and can't actually see a flaw, myself.

QM2,3,4 are Leica designations for the quality of ex-demo items released to dealers for sale. QM2 is the best and numbered upwards by decreasing quality.

We had some QM4 in the shop the other week and the quality was such that we could not see any flaws at all. Full warranty applies.
