Advertisement Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Hi SiOnara, Take a look here Firmware. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Ming Rider Posted June 15, 2011 Share #2 Posted June 15, 2011 Yes, I've heard there are a few, much longed for additions :- 1. When you switch the camera on, you get a message saying "Hello from Leica Cameras". 2. A `menu` to change the background color of the `menu`, (plus an extra menu to change the color of that menu and one for that menu etc, etc . . .) 3. Support for adding new languages that haven't been written yet. 4. The choice of two sound files for the shutter release that go "Oohh Matron" or "Phwoor", everytime you press it. Like you say, fingers crossed but don't hold your breath for anything useful (except the `handy` additions above of course).

UliWer Posted June 16, 2011 Share #9 Posted June 16, 2011 According to Andreas Jürgensen, the admin of this forum, there has been a group of beta testers from this forum for a new M8-firmware, which started testing a little bit later than with the M9. So it's very probable that there will be an new firmware for the M8 "soon". I am also confident it will deal with "red edge" problems which also exist with the M8 and certain wide angles - even if this went unnoticed before September 2009 when the M9 came out. No indication yet if there is more in the new firmware.

peekpt Posted June 19, 2011 Share #11 Posted June 19, 2011 +1 Maybe a lenses numbered list, instead of names will, decrease some bytes on firmware size, though

zombii Posted June 20, 2011 Share #17 Posted June 20, 2011 From what I've read on this and other forums, the three issues that are at the top of the most wanted list that might possibly be addressed in firmware are: * Lens selection list * Ability to reprogram the Protect button to ISO selection. (#1 for me) * Improved white balance. I think if we get even one of those, we'll be lucky.
ramosa Posted June 20, 2011 Share #18 Posted June 20, 2011 Of those three, the ISO button is most important for me, followed by the lens self-selection.
chris_livsey Posted June 20, 2011 Share #19 Posted June 20, 2011 I think if we get even one of those, we'll be lucky. We should get something. If it was only a list extension for new lenses (worst case scenario) that surely wouldn't need Beta testing ?
menos I M6 Posted June 20, 2011 Share #20 Posted June 20, 2011 Now, that I added a M9 to my M8.2, I really see, that these two operational differences (ISO selection and lens selection menu) make me stumble once in a a while, working with both bodies. I hope, next to the obviously expected wide angle lens tweaks, Leica does a few things, to make operation of both cameras again more equal: - SD card format -> identical menu (I always get a small hick up, formatting cards in the M9) - SD card labelling as "Leica M8" - Protect button -> ISO button with same operation as M9 - if recources allow, addition of lens selection menu with same menu position (up top) and operation as in M9 (this would be absolutely wonderful, to pair these two cameras together) - addition of Info menu functionality (would help me, to get used to the amiss of the nice little top LCD)
