Lord Fluff Posted June 22, 2011 Share #21 Â Posted June 22, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Interesting - your 1.8 review I took as positive when I first read it. It's still one of the only ones out there in fact. Glad you like the 2.5, though that lens sadly is so slow as to make it irrelevant for my purposes. Â I've not found the 1.8 soft at all...but then maybe it depends on your yardstick - my favourite lens is the pre-asph 50 Lux, so maybe you're more into the modern crisp look. That said, I don't see massive differences between your test shots.

Archiver Posted June 22, 2011 Share #22 Â Posted June 22, 2011 I really like the CV 75/2.5 as well. It is smaller and lighter than the 75mm Summarit, and is almost as good. The Summarit feels nicer to focus and IMO produces bokeh which is a bit more pleasant. I also think that the colour is different, not necessarily better, but just different. And it surprisingly sharp when wide open, but that is to be expected from a Leica lens. I use either lens whenever I feel like it, and honestly, I can't tell that much difference in output if I'm not looking super hard.
AncientCityPhoto Posted June 23, 2011 Share #23 Â Posted June 23, 2011 The 75 2.5 and 1.8 are honestly really close in certain aspects as indicated by my test shots. The 2.5 is crisper in the center where you focus wide open versus the 1.8 at 2.5. The out of focus at that point is very similar at that point. I find the 1.8 seems to be a bit more modern looking once you start stopping down beyond F4. Â The real difference for me, and one of the deciding factors was size and weight. There is a major difference between the two when you have them side by side. When it comes to a rangefinder system, I want the smallest lens possible without a quality compromise. For me, I couldn't justify the size and weight of the 1.8 against the performance differences and subjective taste.
ezc203 Posted July 5, 2011 Author Share #24 Â Posted July 5, 2011 In case anyone was wondering, I ended up buying the Summarit-M. Â I know I know, but at the end of the day, I got a great deal on a second-hand copy ($325 discount and free Lecia E46 UV/IR-cut filter) and got a Leica lens. I'll be honest, image quality wise, the Summarit might just be a little bit sharper than the Voigtlander f/2.5; but not enough for me to notice without seriously examining side-by-side images. But for me, it's about the feeling I get when I use a Leica.
Washington Posted July 6, 2011 Share #25  Posted July 6, 2011 I freakin’ love my CV 75mm f1.8 and it is indeed a part of my permanent carry around in the bag selection. Like all my lenses… I supplement it with an external finder. Superb! Absolutely superb!!!!!
Jamie Roberts Posted July 6, 2011 Share #26 Â Posted July 6, 2011 So anyone who has used the 75 Lux and the Heliar... what's your opinion shooting people, fairly wide open, in natural light? Â I love the 75 Lux--especially on the m9, it's a perfect portrait length--but its quirks drive me a little nuts, particularly the focus shift from 1.4 to f2.8... it's the only Lux I know that shifts that much in that range (typically they start to shift after f2 and clear up by f4...though I understand that it is also probably the combination of the lens and my camera body being a bit out of synch
Lord Fluff Posted July 11, 2011 Share #27 Â Posted July 11, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jamie - I'm not sure I can fully comment but here goes. I've used a couple of 75 Luxes for about 30 mins each taking a variety of shots, and have had the Heliar for not too long. Lovely as the 75 Lux is in the end I much prefer the Heliar - I've been very pleased with the results, the focussing is easy, smooth and precise, no focus shift that I've observed and (I think) a very similar rendering. The smaller size and weight also means it's more likely for me to use it.
