johnloumiles Posted June 14, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 14, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just received a new Summarit 75mm and took it out for a test run. I have to say it is hands down my best lens. Sharp and soft in all the right places (at least for me) shooting wide open. I'm surprised my 50 cron v3 really isn't coming close to producing the color, sharpness and contrast the Summarit is. I still need to do some more shooting to confirm that but right now I'm really happy with this lens. P.S. I still love the 50 cron so I'm not disparaging it at all and most likley I'm doing something wrong. 75 Summarit 160 2.5 1/4000

lct Posted June 14, 2011 Share #2 Posted June 14, 2011 Looks out of focus at first glance, the green leaf on the right is sharper no?
wda Posted June 14, 2011 Share #3 Posted June 14, 2011 It is a truly excellent lens and very popular with owners/forum members. Your picture is back-focused, which is easy to do if you sway fractionally to and fro when preparing to shoot. Worth practising every day.
johnloumiles Posted June 14, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted June 14, 2011 Yeah I'm not sure why I posted that one and not the one after. It does seem to be a winner. Look forward to using it a lot in the near future. I'm curious about why my 50 summicron is showing up a little flat comparatively but its nothing to complain about. I'm still a 50 man first and foremost. Boring flower picture I should have posted instead...
wda Posted June 14, 2011 Share #5 Posted June 14, 2011 I have a Version 2 50mm Summicron which is much lower in contrast and definition compared with the current version. But it is useful for many subjects as Thorsten Overgaard has proved in his review of the M9. So your slightly later version will be sharper but will lack contrast compared with current generation lenses. If you want matching performance with your Summarit, consider getting a current Summicron or Summarit. I would go for the former for the extra speed.
