1) How many 36 exposure films will I get out of my 100 bulk film roll? It seems to be lasting forever.

2) How many films will I be able to develop with my 1qrt of Diafine

3) Can I over fix film? I misread the Ilford Rapid Fixer time the first time I used it and fixed for 5 mins rather than 5 seconds (?!?). I've been using 5mins ever since thinking it won't do any harm but will it?

Pete

Hi Pete

Depends on loader type I only get 17 with 'tear drops', you may get 18...

The capacity should come with the packing, but you need to be careful with storage

5 mins is better than 5 seconds again the instructions are on the packaging.

I normally open the tank after a min of fixing and lift the top reel (of multi reel tank) and repeat until it stops being milky and then fix for same time again.

But the tabular grain films need longer, so you need to keep one at the top of tank to allow for that.

If you fix for longer or use partially exhausted fix then you ned to wash for longer.

It is best to read before you make the mistakes, at least you will find them easier to identitfy - I do.

1. Like Xmas, I usualy got 17 full rolls of 36 and a "short" roll of about 20 exp. (saved that for tests)

2. Read box. But it will basically be until all the part "A" has been used up physically (absorbed by films). That's one nice thing about Diafine - very little exhaustion. The part A just shrinks in volume, and the part B is primarily a catalyst (alkali environment) that allows Part A to work without being "used" itself.

3. No fixer in the world will work in 5 secs. ;) It is possible to overfix film (the acid starts eating into the image silver) but usually takes quite a while to affect the image noticeably, at least 30 mins. Again, as Xmas says, fix for twice the time it takes for the milkiness to disappear (twice clearing time).
