Professional Work w/ M8

Is anyone here work or know anyone that works professionally using the M8 as their primary tool currently? Whether its reportage or editorial, maybe advertising is a stretch since its not always the photographers choice. Was it widely used when it first came out 7 years ago or did most pros stick with the M7?

I'm referring to printed media and not so much wedding or portrait work.

Thanks,

I agree about the lenses and personally (I just got 75mm Summarit). I'm looking to start shooting some editorial and I just want to use the M8 exclusively. I have Canon 60 D w/grip but I'm not willing to invest in a decent lens system for that as well.

Glad to know it works for you!

Used M8 alongside a 5DII for printed life size posters for fashion advertisement, ended up with similar sharpness and detail, 35mm summarit and 50mm summicron used. 5DII had the potential to go much bigger though.

As my camera of choice - yes. As an only camera - no. The M system has its place and is a brilliant but is not versatile for all work. I suspect that few photographers are in the position of using any M camera as a primary/only tool.

I have been using an M8 for weekly newspaper work for three years. It's not my only digital - I have Canon for sports, etc., but the M8 is fine if I'm primarily carrying film Leicas. It works well in specific circumstances, but it's not a universal digital camera.

I use mine for a mix of my work depending what the job is. I do mostly architecture / panoramic work. I also do portraits, events, and live performance.

I use the M8 wherever I can get away with it because I like the look better. When I need large size, or a lot of technical movements I use a 5DmkII with shift lenses and or a fisheye. I use the Leica for architectural details, creative shots, and non-360-degree panoramas with a 21mm lens.

For and event or portrait work, the Leica is fantastic. I have a new architectural brochure coming out and several of the shots in it are from the M8.

It's funny that often the M8 shots are first to be selected by clients.
