Lord Fluff Posted June 8, 2011 Share #8 Posted June 8, 2011 If you mean 'hitting the shelves', then not any time soon. The current drive of Leica to produce maximum sharpness wide aperture lenses means they seem to have engineered themselves into a position of never having any of their hottest property (Summiluxes, Noctilux etc) to actually deliver to stores other than as pre-orders (unless you are exceptionally lucky). This isn't as favourable an economic position as it might sound (unless they chose to keep increasing prices to find the knee of the demand curve, which thankfully so far isn't really happening), but according to LFI this is, as they see it, unavoidable. So, if you're the kind of person who likes to be able to play with an item first before handing over the plastic, you will most likely be waiting for a very long time before you get your hands on one. On the other hand if you're seriously considering buying one, then go for it and if you decide against it then I'm sure you'll have options.
MSUSpartan Posted June 8, 2011 Share #9 Posted June 8, 2011 Some guy on getDPI just sold his for $8K. Seeing another one on CL here in NYC for $8K. Tempted to sell mine myself!
JWW Posted June 8, 2011 Share #10 Posted June 8, 2011 Got mine last year by putting money down before the release. Should of bought two! Yes, with Leica lenses its best to get on a list before trying it out or even before it's even officially out.
koala54 Posted June 8, 2011 Author Share #11 Posted June 8, 2011 Do not mean to winch about the non availability but the slow production is a big damper on on us RF "M" users. Leica lenses are becoming Bentleys. Will get mine eventually but the wait is wearing thin everyones patience....
hoppyman Posted June 8, 2011 Share #12 Posted June 8, 2011 Best of good fortune for everyone waiting to get delivery soon. It is a superb lens. I ordered mine on day of announcement and got it last July. I think that you definitely need to place an order and wait for nearly every lens currently. hoppyman Posted June 9, 2011 Share #14 Posted June 9, 2011 Haah! Just noticed that Well I hope that on balance they have been positive and useful! I am extremely happy with the New Summilux though. It's been pointed at all manner of subjects from pretty girls to panoramas and has become my standard lens. I never really appreciated the focal length enough previously. Welcome, dear visitor! tdtaylor Posted June 9, 2011 Share #15 Posted June 9, 2011 This seems to be one of those lenses where just order and wait. I'm not sure calling 50 Leica dealers around would help. I am approaching 13 months, but have recently been notified I am 3rd of 62 open orders from a top Leica dealer, and they are hopeful to fill my order this month. Several higher ups in Leica attended an opening there last month, and I am being told they basically said "be patient." And patient I am, for I have the MATE to hold me over. Sold my version I long ago to fund this lens. I think there may be a proverb in this posting somewhere edit- nice shot, Geoff. PLEASE do not post any more photos like this until I get mine. Lousy photos are fine. I am REALLY trying hard to be patient.
