tangyoulei Posted June 5, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 5, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Folks, after some research online, I have seen some reputable places where people tend to send in their Leica stuff for inspection and repair: Leica NJ Don at DAG Youxin Steve's Camera etc (any other?) I understand that Leica NJ is the only official and authorized repair shop. But when considering the cost and reliability, and for some small issues of an M8, where would you rather to send your camera in for service (out of warranty)? Currently my M8 has some shutter speed LED problem (refer to http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/184233-why-m8-shutter-speed-display-sooo.html). And I have been hesitating where to send it for service. Unless it's safe, I won't go to any place other than Leica NJ. But if possible, going to other reputable camera service place can possibly save a bit. Any suggestion is appreciated.

stunsworth Posted June 5, 2011 Share #2 Posted June 5, 2011 Send it directly to Solms. Not sure any 3rd parties can perform electronic servicing.
Guest Ming Rider Posted June 5, 2011 Share #3 Posted June 5, 2011 +1 Solms. At least that way, if they f**k it up, they can send you a new one
ho_co Posted June 5, 2011 Share #4 Posted June 5, 2011 Send to Allendale. If it's something they can't handle, they'll automatically send it to Solms.
tangyoulei Posted June 5, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted June 5, 2011 thank you guys! as you all suggest it seems Allendale is the way to go (since I am in the USA which seems too far from Solms )
LeicaMSeattle Posted June 6, 2011 Share #6 Posted June 6, 2011 Allendale, NJ can do most any repair except for the most technical lens rebuild, where they send the piece back to Solms.

farnz Posted June 8, 2011 Share #9 Posted June 8, 2011 Don't forget to factor in the CLA and 1 year warranty that Leica provides with repairs. Pete.
andybarton Posted June 9, 2011 Share #10 Posted June 9, 2011 Only Leica can fix many problems with M8/9s anyway, so any discussion is pretty much moot.
pico Posted June 9, 2011 Share #11 Posted June 9, 2011 Leica Allendale, NJ, fixed my utterly destroyed M9 in ten days, including delivery time. So make up your own mind.
