Swanny66 Posted June 10, 2011 Share #141 Posted June 10, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Who cares about his rant. It probably isn't good for a Leica ambassador to vent in public. But he is entitled to his opinion. Though I didn't see the need for his reaction. Nobody was being over the top. And everyone bitches about prices...be it a pint of brew or an M9. I don't like his music, nor will I ever. He does have good taste in cameras though

Washington Posted June 11, 2011 Share #142 Posted June 11, 2011 That was a sleeve valve engine, wasn’t it? Whew, I’ll bet it’s hard to get parts for!!! But, what an example of engineering! Whoops, you already said it was sleeve valve…. sorry.
Washington Posted June 11, 2011 Share #143 Posted June 11, 2011 P.S. I wish you had one of the early prototypes with the R.R. Griffen…. and fly over my place with it…. not that it was a more powerful engine: it’s just wonderment about what ‘’the Griffin growl'' sounded like. Cheers. Rip. Rick Posted June 14, 2011 Share #150 Posted June 14, 2011 Hey Bill, just wondering what color nail polish you guys shoot with in the UK? The craze hasn't hit the street photography scene here in the US yet, but I see Seal prefers purple.

chrism Posted June 15, 2011 Share #152 Posted June 15, 2011 I think it's a bit naive for Leica to assume that using Seal will be effective marketing - most of his fans, being way more youthful than most of us here, aren't going to be in the market for an M, so maybe it's aimed towards buyers of compact cameras rather than rangefinders. Sadly, every time he has interacted with the forums it has ended in tears, not because of the anti-elitist haters who envy his lifestyle, as he assumes, but because rangefinder users are an eccentric but knowledgable crowd who don't enjoy condescension. The all-day Seal worship from that other site has put me off visiting it at all. A shame, as a more collegial approach from the 'ambassador' could have been a plus. Speak for yourself. Seal's first hit was in 1990... Today he would appeal firmly to the Michael Buble, Alicia Keys, John Legend, firmly lounge/middle of the road market - late thirty to fortysomethings that pulled in a club to the strains of "kiss from a rose". He appeals exactly to the demographic that has money to spend on (their first) Leica. Who buys compact cameras these days anyway? Most kids use cameraphones and listen to bands like Slipknot and Paramore, in spite of the best efforts of Simon Cowell. My Man Lupin is partial to a bit of Cradle of Filth and he is forever trying to borrow my MP. Regards, Bill
Falstaff Posted June 15, 2011 Share #154 Posted June 15, 2011 Hey Bill, just wondering what color nail polish you guys shoot with in the UK? The craze hasn't hit the street photography scene here in the US yet, but I see Seal prefers purple. That would very much depend on the colour of half case being used . Guest Posted June 15, 2011 Share #155 Posted June 15, 2011 Maybe knowledge about pre-war photography enabled Seal to give the fashion world a new impuls? (Though in a rather direction. But in a momentary lack of good ideas people come up with other ones, too.) I'm trying to think, what photographer's portrait I remember with finger nails stained dark in a b&W photo by dark-room chemicals he used. Any help? Guest Posted June 15, 2011 Share #158 Posted June 15, 2011 To all who like pop, if only a little bit, and have expressed ignorance here about the subject of this thread, I recommend his album "Best 1991-2004". Remembering a song of his from the nineties without remembering the title, I got it last week and we like listening to it. Talked to people over the week-end, who'we been to his concert here in Frankfurt some years ago. They said: "What? It was good music, nice guy being quite genuine ( Der ist echt in Ordnung! the said) and we had a wonderful evening." They couldn't care less about Leica and yes! they have a good midle-class life. To coin more and more the titanium Leica as a negative object, of envy mainly implying in this the (presumed) life-style of their (billionaire) owners is not on the level of this forum imo. Maybe there should be a M9ti sub-forum, where those wishing to express their opinions about this Leica model, can congregate. Hey, we got a software update for the M9 today and Howard, who tends to be well informed, said that there's a chance for a M8 update this year. What more can one ask for as a Leica photog ? Because on sunny weather like today we're sure having Gut Licht! Simon
