I wonder how we can scan film with correct color. Do you have any experience?

My scanner is plustek 7600i SE. I don't have IT8 thing.

There are some pictures with Fuji 160S film.

Thanks

I've spent quite a bit of time on this. This is the method I'm using at the moment using LINEAR SCAN files obtained using vuescan with this method or with this batch scanning method with "no color correction" selected.

Sometimes I use the vuescan files with this method (ColorPerfect).

With your image here I just clicked a mid grey with the white balance tool and changed the contrast slightly (http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/film-forum/169496-scanning-consistency-warning-pictures.html#post1627498) (http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/film-forum/169496-scanning-consistency-warning-pictures-4.html#post1678922).

Do you know where I can download ColorPerfect for Windows 32bits English version? I found one but in Germany :(

C F Systems Innovations in Sight and Sound - Photoshop plug-ins page

if you need a larger window go to this page: C F Systems Innovations in Sight and Sound - Download ColorNeg, ColorPos, and GamSat for Larger Displays

what lens did you use on the last picture?

I used 50mm 1.4 for that picture. Basically, 3 pictures was taken by the same lens. Thanks

correct colours using lightroom, capture 1, aperture or photoshop. much more control, and better overall.

Anyway, I scan with HDR 48bits by Silverfast then using photoshop to adjust every single color channel and curve, level...

It takes time but I can get the color I want :)

Thanks

I migrated my KM5400 to a new mac and the original driver would not work. I tried Vuescan and found it poor compared to original KM drivers. The more I played, I found I could adjust the color for shadow or highlight , but but not both at the same time.

I think it needs a profile like a digi printer to get everything correct. Then all you need is a simple color balance and density. The IT8 does the profile?

If you have to adjust everything all the time, I would simply give up.

Scanner drives me mad.

However, my friend suggested that I should try the software coming with scanner (not SilverFast). As a result, I found the QuickScan of Plustek. This software help me alots and it is very simple. One disadvantage is that it not support Dust Removal option :(.

There is a lot of advantages :

- Allow to scan 48 bits

- Don't need to adjust color

- Very quick (just hit the button Quick Scan)

- We can choose output : file/photoshop ....

....

Thanks

I did ask Plustek in this morning. They answer me the same thing :(

It is not end of the world. I also posted a topic on SilverFast forum asking what parameters do I need to configure to get the result which is the same as QuickScan.

Thank Henry

Dust removal software will soften all images.

Use gloves, compressed air, or a clean brush. Store so they do not get full of crud. Dry in a clean place.

Scan so you get a correct histogram, then balance the color, then open in photoshop to do everything else.

I have had great success using an XRite Color Checker Passport color card and profiling a film/scanner/lens combo under sun and Shade or CFL.

It is one click easy, provides excellent reference colors and allows you to retain the character of the film.

It is worth the $99.
