razerx Posted June 3, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought a second hand 280/4 APO Telyt R and the filter inside the filter tray is missing. It is supposed to be a Series VI filter? Will any Series VI filter do or does it need to be one designed for this particular application? How do I go about finding one? Thanks for your help in advance.
Advertisement Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Hi razerx, Take a look here Leica 280mm F/4 APO Telyt R filter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
razerx Posted June 3, 2011 Author Share #2 Posted June 3, 2011 My mistake. It is supposed to be a Series 5.5 ND x1. I did a search and there are used Series 5.5 filters for the 40mm Summicron C. Will that work?
masjah Posted June 3, 2011 Share #3 Posted June 3, 2011 There's no reason to believe that it's anything other than a standard series 5.5. According to the instruction booklet, it is required to be in place, since the computation of the lens is based on its presence.
lct Posted June 3, 2011 Share #4 Posted June 3, 2011 ...I did a search and there are used Series 5.5 filters for the 40mm Summicron C. Will that work? The original Leica filter is series 5.5 NDx1 # 13026. Can be found for about €40 in Germany: Leica S 5,5 ND 1x Filter 13026 - SH photo Otherwise series 5.5 for Leica CL fit perfectly as far as size but i don't know if ND ones exist for the latter. razerx Posted June 3, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted June 3, 2011 Thanks but I have already ordered a Heliopan S 5.5 uv from B&H. I would like to have the proper Leica filter and will order that one too.
lct Posted June 3, 2011 Share #6 Posted June 3, 2011 UV is not ND i'm afraid but will it make a significant difference i don't know. I have lost the filter of my Nikon 300/4 many years ago and never replaced it as i failed to see the least difference on my pics. Perhaps the Leica's is as useless as that? Sorry i have no idea. james.liam Posted June 6, 2011 Share #7 Posted June 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) As mentioned above, the presence of that ND filter has been calculated in as has the clear protective glass up front. Does it visibly make a difference? I doubt Leica optical scientists would have insisted on both if there was no reason. And given that it's one of the highest, if not THE highest performing telephoto lens ever devised, who are we to argue?
