Cheesebgt Posted June 1, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted June 1, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Firstly I'd like to say hi to everyone. As this is my first post on this site. Â Today I got my hands on a digilux 3 to test before buying. I fired off a few shots to test the lens and IQ. The images were terrible. Most of the pictures came out in black and white with only the reds in colour. Then I did manage to get some full colour shots, but the IQ was worse than 10 year old 1mp camera phone! It has since gone back to shooting in black and white (and red). Â I thought it might be just the LCD on the camera, so I downloaded the photos on to a computer to view them and there was no change in IQ (still poor). Â So my question is: is it likely to be the sensor that is damaged? Or some weird setting on the camera?

earleygallery Posted June 1, 2011 Share #2  Posted June 1, 2011 This thread is about the sister Panasonic version http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/183527-panasonic-dmc-l1.html  If it's not working correctly walk away. A micro 4/3rds camera (if 4/3rd is what you want) would be a better buy anyway.
Cheesebgt Posted June 1, 2011 Author Share #3 Â Posted June 1, 2011 Thanks for the reply earleygallery. I couldn't see any mention of a similar problem on that thread, however.
earleygallery Posted June 2, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted June 2, 2011 No, but there is advice about buying the camera. Â Why are you even considering buying one with 'issues' ? Dodgy sensor colours almost certainly means it's about to give up.
ASpes Posted June 2, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted June 2, 2011 Firstly I'd like to say hi to everyone. As this is my first post on this site.Today I got my hands on a digilux 3 to test before buying. I fired off a few shots to test the lens and IQ. The images were terrible .... So my question is: is it likely to be the sensor that is damaged? Or some weird setting on the camera? Â Â Although everybody is entitled to one's preferences (and opinions), a D/3 is actually quite a capable and reliable camera, and, unlike the D/2, is not known for sensor problems. This obviously does not mean a particular camera cannot have a faulty sensor of course. Â My suggestion is to have another test if possible, but this time first reset the camera before doing anything, so that you can be sure it's not some setting getting in the way. Assuming you're not familiar with it: enter the menu via the diamond central button, left, go to the "spanner" options, right, down until you find the "Reset" item, **right**, and answer ok to all questions. Then try again a few shots in good light maybe. Â If what you get is like what you have seen the first time, there's some issue with that camera, so I'd let it pass and look for another. Â Welcome to the forum and ... best of luck.
Cheesebgt Posted June 2, 2011 Author Share #6 Â Posted June 2, 2011 Thanks earleygallery and aspes for the advice. Â I did as you said aspes and reset the camera, but it did nothing to improve the image. So I've given the camera back. Â There doesn't seem to be many D3's for sell so I might have to go for something different like a D2 or a X-100.
