johnbuckley Posted May 29, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted May 29, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) This may be a firmware flaw, or I may be doing something wrong, but when I turn on the setting stating I am using an external viewfinder, the screen does go dark for that first photo. However, after playback, or just on subsequent photos, the screen stays on. Is this user error, or my X1 not working properly? Thanks for any advice. JB Â P.S. Using the Leica finder for the X1 and very pleased with the results; the focus is pretty much exactly where I would want it to be.
Advertisement Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Hi johnbuckley, Take a look here External Viewfinder Setting On, But So Is LCD. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
symmetron Posted May 29, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted May 29, 2011 I just checked; mine doesn't do what your's is doing. After review, the screen goes dark as it should on mine. Â I also checked it against a range of Auto Review settings and it's working as it should. Â Try powering off and remove and then reinstall the battery to see if that clears it up. Â What is your firmware? Mine is 2.0.
johnbuckley Posted May 29, 2011 Author Share #3 Â Posted May 29, 2011 Using 2.0. Hmmm. Will try the battery trick and see. Thank you.
wda Posted May 29, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted May 29, 2011 John, I find you only have to touch the INFO button and you have the best of both worlds. I have the external viewfinder fitted permanently with the menu set to reflect that situation. If I need the LCD for framing a close-up, a touch of the INFO button and you are in business. It also cycles through GRID lines and evenually it is blank. I have no problems with it. Glad you enjoy the combination.
johnbuckley Posted May 30, 2011 Author Share #5 Â Posted May 30, 2011 Thanks, David. I don't really mind having the LCD on when using the finder, but it bothers me that I don't think it's supposed to work like that! Love the camera. With the finder on, I feel like I am carrying around my M9 in miniature.
village idiot! Posted June 7, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted June 7, 2011 For the sake of reportage mine does the same, it was a bit frustrating at first because I try my best to preserve as much battery life as I can, assuming of course that live view must be a serious drain. I also discovered the info button solution and now use it just as David.
stephen.w Posted June 7, 2011 Share #7 Â Posted June 7, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Try half pressing the shutter - that will turn the screen off, if you've selected it as off in the menu and it pops on again.
pharyngula Posted June 7, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted June 7, 2011 I've been having the same problem that John describes but it seems to be intermittent - sometimes it works as it should and sometimes it doesn't. I've been trying to sort out the conditions under which the problem (i.e., screen not turning off) appears but it seems random. As John says, after a few shots and/or flipping through play, it seems to stop going dark. However, I find David's suggestion about using the info button helpful - it does the trick nicely.
