bentarrow Posted May 27, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted May 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) been trying to get this baby for over a week. Every store I contact, they said there was a huge increase in sale with m9. Apparently they sell 1 or 2 every week!! to China?!!? to teenagers who use it as a "status" symbol. They email back and say "where is the autofocus button"... I am speechless. I finally save up enough ponies for one and I cant find it anywhere!! shard Posted May 28, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted May 28, 2011 Summilux lenses are not something you can normally walk into a store and expect ready stock, at least not for the last 12 months or so. Â First of all, they are more expensive than most cameras and a prime lens put together. Â Second, they can't make them fast enough to satisfy demand. Â Your best bet is to go to a store you trust, leave a deposit and you should get one soon. You may also want to avoid large stores that everyone else goes to because those tend to have a much longer waiting list.
ezc203 Posted May 28, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted May 28, 2011 Well documented problem. Nothing you can really do. Â Either be patient or pay a premium and buy a second-hand one that's readily available.
abrewer Posted May 28, 2011 Share #6  Posted May 28, 2011 50/1.4 ASPH has been a tough get from intro 7, 8 years ago  Rumors the first batch used some rare old glass Leitz had hidden away (unfounded) made it cult from the first  Then people began seeing images and WOW  It's one of those items you have to be lucky and good to lay hands on  No, mine's not for sale
newtoleica Posted May 28, 2011 Share #7 Â Posted May 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just sold mine yesterday on the forum. Its a lovely lens, but I just don't 'get on' with 50mm lenses. I tried really hard, but in the end couldn't justify having it. I listed it at 11.06pm, and it sold at 11.07pm..... lct Posted May 28, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted May 28, 2011 ...I cant find it anywhere... Anywhere or everywhere? See for instance Leica Montmartre - 50/1.4 asph. Says "en stock" (available). I would call to be sure though.
Peter H Posted May 28, 2011 Share #9 Â Posted May 28, 2011 I'm a very happy man, I'm not gloating but sharing this to encourage you. Â I bought one off-the-shelf from a main London dealer three weeks ago. I was not on their waiting list. Â I got lucky : I was just chatting to them about how hard it was to find a new Summilux 50 and they said "Hang on, you might be in luck". They'd just received a shipment that was one more than their waiting list so there it was, just sitting there for the first person to ask for it, and it happened to be me. Â Moral: keep on looking, you may get lucky too.
smkoush Posted May 28, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted May 28, 2011 I pre-ordered one (50mm 1.4/ASPH) last March from Popflash photo, I was told 2 weeks wait, and in exactly 2 weeks I had the lens. Â Savvas

I do not like your implications, to make the impression, there are users, worth, owning a lens and users, that are not in your eye.  I understand, that you wanting and not getting one can be frustrating, but you could just do what everyone else is doing, wanting to buy an item, which is rarely in stock and has waiting lists in most places in the world:  - order one with a dealer - buy a "make shift" lens for the time being - consider 50/2.5, 50/2, 50/1 or any vintage Leica/Canon/Zeiss/Voigtlander sample, that might be appealing to you, to kill time or even explore characteristics, that might make it worth, to hold on to the lens, even when your Lux ASPH arrives.  When I had my 50 Lux ASPH at Solms for about 6 weeks, I felt the need, to have another 50mm, looked at many option, until a nice second hand Noctilux showed up. I slept a night over it, bought the Noctilux and it happens, to be my mainly used lens now, while the Lux seldom leaves storage.  Life's too nice, to sweat about one photographic lens, while there are thousands of others, isn't it?  Oh and by the way - I know some pretty good Chinese photographers personally, none of them being teenagers or wondering about a missing AF button on their Leicas ;-)

ramosa Posted June 1, 2011 Share #18 Â Posted June 1, 2011 I also got mine thru Popflash. I did not officially pre-order it, but I let them know that I wanted one. When they got a shipment, they emailed me, and I purchased it immediately. I have now purchased an M8 and four new Leica lenses from them--and have been very happy with their service. ho_co Posted June 1, 2011 Share #19 Â Posted June 1, 2011 In my case, it took 9 months to get the 50/1.4. Â Just order it and sit tight. Good lens, worth the wait, no matter your opinion of the Chinese.
