Guest V64 Posted February 4, 2007 Share #1  Posted February 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Attached are three images of some dwarf dark blue iris growing in my garden,  The first two are taken with Manual WB, in Shade and then 2 hours later in Sun (weak winter sun). The third is with Auto WB, again in Sun. The first image is reasonably true to color.  None of the various published C1 Profiles made any significant difference to the Purple/Blue.  My M8 has firmware v1.9, delivered a few days ago.  Is this an example of the M8 InfraRed problem, or is it that the flower is really a different color (which I cant see) when it is in the Sunshine?  David H.  http://www.leica-camera-user.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=24371&stc=1&d=1170599855 http://www.leica-camera-user.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=24372&stc=1&d=1170599855 http://www.leica-camera-user.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=24373&stc=1&d=1170599855 Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Hi Guest V64, Take a look here Blue Iris, in Sun and Shade. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
leicamann Posted February 4, 2007 Share #2  Posted February 4, 2007 This would be ..if they are blooming now ..in Oregon or California. The color pallette is very good, purple is an excellent test for any digital camera, it will tell you alot about how flexible and accurate the sensor is.  Now in terms of Macro photography , which these images would fall into, unfortunately the M series Macro is not its strength. This would have been better with the R 60mm Macro Elmarit F2.8.... The M's are noted for their 21,24,28,35,50, lenses.. Though I must add that I saw actor Charles Martin Smith in " Never Cry Wolf" use a "VisoFlex system with a "Macro/ bellows" setup.. using an M3... so if you so feel inclined....   Thanks for sharing  Regards, Leicamann
jlancasterd Posted February 4, 2007 Share #3  Posted February 4, 2007 David  Do you have an IR-cut filter? If so, could you take 2 shots in the same lighting, one with, the other without, the IR filter?
Guest V64 Posted February 4, 2007 Share #4  Posted February 4, 2007 John and Leicamann,  I would love to - but i'm afraid I dont yet have an IR-cut filter, and they will be gone before I do!  This Blue is indeed a real test - and it also shows up the metamerism in my Epson 8450 printer - but the Epson DX4850 does OK, but still shows some purple - I need a better printer!  The Location is the UK.  I recall that in the early days of Digital Images Blue was always a killer - lets hope an IR filter will fix it  The image is a crop from one taken with a 35mm 'cron.  I am sorry I posted this to the wrong section - perhaps someone can move it to the Digital section  Thank-you for your comments  DavidH

Never Cry Wolf is one of the best films ever made. I never get sick of watching it.
dpattinson Posted February 23, 2009 Share #6 Â Posted February 23, 2009 It does look like an IR effect. I saw green foliage lightened to yellow before I got IR filters - and I notice that the foliage has shifted to yellow in your shots as well.

I'd agree - to avoid frustration I'd stick with B&W while I was waiting for the filters to come - if you're really in a hurry you might find some used. There's a 55 in the Buy and Sell. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/market/listing/153/Leica_E55_UVIR_filter_black.html Best
luigi bertolotti Posted February 23, 2009 Share #8  Posted February 23, 2009 IR effect, agree, and I have got a certain experience of... with SOME kind of blue-velvet flowers (I think, depending on their "skin" texture - reflectivity or so) the effect is very significant, expecially with direct sun; with other flowers, is much less strong, even if noticeable: I came to the conclusion that the UVIR is a MUST in shooting flowers, period.  Here are two examples with two different flowers: in both cases, the first is the picture WITH filter, and (to my eyes) the color was "right" :  #1 (M8 with Tele Elmar 135, lenshead on Visoflex) Welcome, dear visitor! luigi bertolotti Posted February 23, 2009 Share #9  Posted February 23, 2009 I found another example with different base color (one of my wife's favorite roses... ); again evident (1st with filter), but I remember (took the pict last May) that the "unfiltered" was easier to adjust via software.  Welcome, dear visitor!
