Camera Calibration

I use LR to process the X1 RAW files, in the camera calibration section the default camera profile is set to Adobe Standard and the other option available is fro the embedded camera profile. Do you have a preferred profile you use or do you use a specific profile for certain shots? When using the Embedded profile does it make sense to use the Auto white balance setting or do you change this to the specifics situation where the picture was taken? Any additional info regarding these profile settings regarding the X! are welcome.

Personally I start with "embedded" as I feel it gives slightly more accurate colors, but other times the difference is not discernible. Sinc ewe are tweaking anyway I guess it does not matter much which profile, though in my case embedded seems to work better than adobe standard.

Ferry & Cj, in order get the widest color gamut (the most information) from the RAW files, you must first set up LR with the default of ProPhoto as the default (embedded) colorspace. Adobe Standard is a smaller colorspace, but fine for posting on the web. Always remember that you can change the default colorspace in the settings within LR.

I think we may be confusing the color space (ProPhoto), which is automatic and can't be set with LR (unlike Photoshop, where it's selectable), and camera profile, which lets one choose what the manufacturer stored with the DNG (embedded) or an Adobe standard (generic) profile.

I've seen others speculate that the advantage of using Adobe Standard profile is that all cameras you use on a particular shoot will come out with the same overall look. Using "embedded" with Nikon, Canon, Leica may tend to give different looks to the same shot, based on what the manufacturer feels his files should look like.

Therefore, unless you've got a specific reason not to, I'd also recommend using the "embedded" profile, just as both Ben and CJ have suggested.
