Ferry Zievinger Posted May 24, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 24, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use LR to process the X1 RAW files, in the camera calibration section the default camera profile is set to Adobe Standard and the other option available is fro the embedded camera profile. Do you have a preferred profile you use or do you use a specific profile for certain shots? When using the Embedded profile does it make sense to use the Auto white balance setting or do you change this to the specifics situation where the picture was taken? Any additional info regarding these profile settings regarding the X! are welcome.

phancj Posted May 24, 2011 Share #2 Posted May 24, 2011 Personally I start with "embedded" as I feel it gives slightly more accurate colors, but other times the difference is not discernible. Sinc ewe are tweaking anyway I guess it does not matter much which profile, though in my case embedded seems to work better than adobe standard. Ferry Zievinger Posted May 25, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted May 25, 2011 I tend to do similar, I also think that the Embedded profile is a bit more real in color rendering, and a good base to build on. Thanks for your reaction.
roguewave Posted May 25, 2011 Share #4 Posted May 25, 2011 Ferry & Cj, in order get the widest color gamut (the most information) from the RAW files, you must first set up LR with the default of ProPhoto as the default (embedded) colorspace. Adobe Standard is a smaller colorspace, but fine for posting on the web. Always remember that you can change the default colorspace in the settings within LR. Ferry Zievinger Posted May 26, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted May 26, 2011 Thank you Ben, that is good to know, I will set this as to the default color profile and take it from there.
ho_co Posted May 26, 2011 Share #6 Posted May 26, 2011 I think we may be confusing the color space (ProPhoto), which is automatic and can't be set with LR (unlike Photoshop, where it's selectable), and camera profile, which lets one choose what the manufacturer stored with the DNG (embedded) or an Adobe standard (generic) profile. I've seen others speculate that the advantage of using Adobe Standard profile is that all cameras you use on a particular shoot will come out with the same overall look. Using "embedded" with Nikon, Canon, Leica may tend to give different looks to the same shot, based on what the manufacturer feels his files should look like. Therefore, unless you've got a specific reason not to, I'd also recommend using the "embedded" profile, just as both Ben and CJ have suggested. 250swb Posted May 26, 2011 Share #8 Posted May 26, 2011 Yes, in ACR the camera profile is not the same thing as the working colour space (as in aRGB etc). I tend to just leave it set to Adobe Standard. Steve
