My wife was out in the garden, today, taking pictures of her flowers. She seemed pleased with the results Charley
Advertisement Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Hi c.d.ewen, Take a look here My D-LUX 5 takes crappy pictures. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
c.d.ewen Posted June 5, 2011 Author Share #42 Posted June 5, 2011 Just one last follow-up to this thread: I stopped by B&H last week and exchanged the camera for another example. I'm happy that I did. I have not rigorously tested the new camera under the exact same conditions as I used the first one, but casual tests show far better results. The first picture below was with the old camera, the second with the new. Remember that the problem was that I was getting unsatisfactory autofocus with the camera set to Snapshot mode. Sharper background than selected focus area is evident in the first photo, not in the second. EXIF for the first photo (old camera) shows: 1/8s 1:2.2 ISO 400, while the second (new camera) shows 1/4s 1:2.8 ISO 400. As I mentioned, this testing was not rigorous - the first photo was taken in Snapshot mode, while the second might have been in Screen/Candlelight. In any case, I could not recreate the problem. Was the first camera a lemon? Without testing them simultaneously side-by-side, I'll never be sure. Charley Welcome, dear visitor! ho_co Posted June 5, 2011 Share #43 Posted June 5, 2011 Charley-- Thanks for the update! Looks like a great improvement. And you rode the choppy waters well of people like me saying the camera was fine, it must be your technique! Congratulations on both counts!
soo Posted June 6, 2011 Share #44 Posted June 6, 2011 I had to learn the focusing sensitivities of the D-LUX 5. It was frustrating at first. Took some experimentation. I love the camera and I like really shallow DOF with sharp infocus subjects. I was trying spot focus and I just couldn't do that. Didn't work for me. Changed to center single area and that works great. Put what I want to be sharp in the center and then reframe the image. See some flower images that I just did this morning and you'll see what I mean. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/nature-wildlife/185397-imperfection.html
phancj Posted June 13, 2011 Share #45 Posted June 13, 2011 Bought my wife a DL5, she brought it to Orlando. She put everything on fully auto and virtually every photo was spot-on in terms of focus and metering. Pretty impressive camera, really. CJ
