Advertisement Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Hi Washington, Take a look here Time to sell the old heap.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Washington Posted May 23, 2011 Author Share #2 Posted May 23, 2011 Should I mention that the brake arm should be adjusted more to the top of the arc for better mechanical advantage & stopping power?
NZDavid Posted May 23, 2011 Share #3 Posted May 23, 2011 Lovely for color, composition, and just the right areas in pin-sharp focus. Ettore Bugatti made his cars to go fast, not stop fast, I believe.
Washington Posted May 23, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted May 23, 2011 NZDavid, You are quite correct about the go fast and the hell with stopping. I used to restore old Brit bikes… same philosophy. However, there are ‘’little things’’ that make a difference with what brakes you do have…. and that arm adjustment is one of them.

pauledell Posted May 23, 2011 Share #6 Posted May 23, 2011 A fine set with great composition, colors, lighting and sharpness. It looks like the "old heap" is in fine repair. Paul

LuxBob Posted May 24, 2011 Share #9 Posted May 24, 2011 NZDavid, However, there are ‘’little things’’ that make a difference with what brakes you do have…. and that arm adjustment is one of them. Perhaps the cable has stretched. I remember the Austin 7 had an adjuster to take up the cable slack. I shudder to think about. Nevertheless I'll raise that 500 to 750. k-hawinkler Posted May 24, 2011 Share #10 Posted May 24, 2011 Washington, Very nice images. I assume you don't drive that car up and down Rocky Mountain National Park too often? Best, K-H.
Washington Posted May 24, 2011 Author Share #11 Posted May 24, 2011 It’s not mine…. but I wouldn’t mind having one if I had a few spare millions.
Washington Posted May 24, 2011 Author Share #12 Posted May 24, 2011 No it’s not the cable… the arm is just placed too far forward. If the cable was that loose the pedal would go to the floor. To rotate the cam for full brake shoe contact that arm only travels maybe an inch.
Washington Posted May 24, 2011 Author Share #13 Posted May 24, 2011 Oh, another thing to notice is that the cable enters the ‘’pulley’’straight and true from the body but has to angle down quite a bit to engage the arm …. not right.
Washington Posted May 26, 2011 Author Share #14 Posted May 26, 2011 Update: from checking out other Bugatti photos: this is how the brake arm was designed. I thought it was poorly adjusted: I was wrong.
