You are quite correct about the go fast and the hell with stopping. I used to restore

old Brit bikes… same philosophy. However, there are ‘’little things’’ that make a

difference with what brakes you do have…. and that arm adjustment is one of them.

Perhaps the cable has stretched. I remember the Austin 7 had an adjuster to take up the cable slack. I shudder to think about.

Nevertheless I'll raise that 500 to 750.
